Nice. I can sort of see Snape thinking like that. It's hard to get the pathetic image Rowling painted of him in DH out of my mind though. He was a really great character after HBP, wasn't he? Even though he seemed to have some sort of crush on Narcissa. Too bad it was all ruthlessly crushed in DH.

I find it more likely than not that he did tell Dumbledore immediately after making the Vow. Otherwise why would Dumbledore have risked his most valuable spy by appointing him to a jinxed position that would ensure his removal from the school (and therefore Voldemort's great anger, not to mention the sort of injuries Lockhart and Barty/Moody ended up with)?
