Really nice pacing and writing here, and the atmosphere is JUST. Augh. Too much, and yet just enough.
The dark melancholy of the prose makes this story both overwhelmingly sad and completely intoxicating at once. You've struck the perfect balance there, and the result is one really enjoyable read.
