Both Ibiki and Mizuki are right, Naruto hiding his skills does way more bad than good. When on a mission it makes sense to hide his abilities, but in all of his own situations it just makes everything worse for himself.

Very good story. Very good writing. Very interesting writer's notes. And, in general... very.
The only thing that I'll disagree on with you is the first person perspective you decided to adopt in certain scenes. To be clear: any lesser writer would have made it so jarring that it would not work. You do make it work, but it is kind of borderline. As for the reasoning you have given for using it — it is understandable, but I believe you could have presented the 'silent type' pov with no dialogue just fine in third person just fine. After all, there is no rule forbidding you to depict character thoughts in third person.
Other than this small issue, it is phenomenal story. Definitely not a 'run of the mill' fic that one usually finds on this site.

You lost me on this chapter, you had wonderful pacing, tense moment and then this utter mess. I applaud you for trying to change the style of writing but you failed miserably. I was confused when I read this chapter and thought I was reading another fanfic, too many new elements. Sometimes trying to push the limits of your writing and being clever end up this pieces. I'll continue on reading, hopefully this is a great learning point for you.

I used to like stories like this some 7 or 10 nyears ago. But, as I grown up, I came ro realize...I don't like edgy emo stuff (anymore). All this strong!dark!smart! Naruto made it a slog to go through nowadays. I already have enough dreariness IRL, thank you very much.
At its heart, Naruto is a hopeful series. About a bright knucklehead making things better. Everyone striving to make a better future, a more peaceful future. Yes, the world is dark and dreary, that is exactly why Shounen Protags and his gangs fighting the good fights for a better tomorrow and suceeding is such a beautiful, bright, and hopeful thing.
Ans these "dark/edgy" fics don't do painted an even worse world and tell the world that hope is a lie, dream of a better tomorrow is naive and one ahouldn't strive to make anything better.

I don't know if this will even be read, ever, but I've gotta say it.
I remember when I first read this story, back in days far gone; I burned through all the content available, from the first chapter all the way to what was the last scene published at the time (that being Sakura scoring a date by mangling a bird). I loved the story, but especially the first chapters, up to the first big SNAFU mission. I'd say something about how I fell for the sense of nihilism that covered everything, but that really doesn't give it enough credit; it didn't just revel in a lack of meaning, it went above and beyond into a sense of half-light and broken sky.
I also remember the last chapter I had read, back when I was still actively keeping up with fanfiction: Asuma sending Naruto up flying on a kite. That was all so long ago, at least ten years it seems like, yet it's all still here. I came back to this site today, for the first time in maybe a decade, feeling sorry for how my life turned out and everything that's happened to me. Then, while I'm going through the archives, I go to open this one up, when I notice that the update date didn't have a year next to it. That it was updated this January. That was... it was shocking enough that I actually had to go back and use different filters to make sure that this wasn't some weird site artefact. But no, it was real. And I cannot tell you how... comforting, I guess, it was. Inspiring too, that it's still being paid attention after all these years. I think I'll be re-reading this again, then I'll have to hunt down the rewrite. Godspeed, good sir, and shine on.
