I definitely vote for more dramatic and plottier reason. And not just because I'd love to see this story continue for longer, lol, but honestly, no matter how carefree and silly Fai acts, I honestly don't think he'd get that persistent over something silly. Well, maybe he would... But I still like the dramatic reason better.
Having said that, I really liked this chapter. Kurogane's epiphany was nice, especially with the cute Sakura helping him without realizing it. Oh, and the description of Kurogane and Fai's 'relationship' was nice. I can definitely see that happening.
Just one word of advice: you might want to think of skipping lines between paragraphs. You do it when you go from one thought to another (badly described, I know), but dialogue also counts as separate paragraphs. It just makes stories look nicer and easier to read when they're online. :D

Would go for the second option (the darker and plottier :3 )
*is a sucker for angsty KuroFay fics* Anyhoo, I think it's more suitable, especially after the last sentence and Fay's violent reactions. Like, if it was silly, I don't think Fay would be that violent.

So does this mean if we can find a word for someone without a gag reflex you'll do another chapter? ;) This is of course an entirely serious question. I'd be happy to look it up, this was such an excelent chapter I think I need to check out much more of your writing. Not only well written but just awesome. It's nice to see Fay as the taking charge at random with Kurogane on the slightly more breathless side now and then.
