This would have been a great addition to the series finale. Well done and well written.

Love this. I really enjoy stories that dig into their relationship. Nicely done.

Well, G., you couldn’t have a better guide through H&McC fanfic-land than Deb, if she is the Deb I am familiar with.
It’s always a challenge to face our insecurities, and here you have McCormick addressing one of my own: the need for control/self-determination. Although I suspect life only ever offers us the illusion of control (or, at most, limited control) over our destinies, I believe we all reach out from time to time to try to find either a sense of self-determination or something that seems a fixed point in our ever-changing reality. Lucky Mark! In your story, he appears to have both, even if he needs that spelled out to see it. (“The same way we do everything … together.”)
Thank you for looking at a challenging theme and for writing a story that resonates with what my favorite fandoms are all about: extraordinary friendship!

That was a cute story and a great move on Hardcastles part. I am buying but feel like I've been given a chance to look after an 'estate' (well for this county) that I loved growing up. I was able after 20 years to buy my best friends parents home. I am (most of the time) pleased to be sharing it with an extended group of 'family' because I consider myself lucky to be here.

I liked it a lot...very nice! I like the sort of quiet desperation you have in Mark...with the 'can i just be done?' line...something very realistic for his character, especially after a near-fatal shooting. Hope you keep them coming!

Welcome to being an author! Yes. it's been done before, but I'll echo the sentiment that there can be more than one way of looking at a situation or an episode or an epilogue and it's very seldom that I'll pass up the chance to read a different "take" on one.
My favorite part in this comes right toward the end, when the judge says, "Control". A telling answer, and one that says a lot in just that one word.
Glad to have you on board as both reader and writer and I look forward to more stories. Soon, I hope!

Hey There,
I just wanna say I loved this.I can not believe this is you first fan fic.
You did a wonderful job on the Characters.
I can definantly tell you are a HUGE Fan of Harcastle and McCormick.
I could picture everything in this story and hear them talking. It's a great story when you can be able to do that.
I'm looking forward to reading more from you.
Oh one other thing. That was a much needed conversation between Milt and Mark.Way overdue actually.Lots of emotion in this story.

I really liked this. I can see Hardcastle coming to terms with his mortality a lot easier than Mark would. Just because he tried once to make sure Mark had a secure future, didn't mean he would give up on that just because Mark refused it in an emotional moment. I can also see how Mark's eyes were opened at how dangerous their chosen "hobby" could be.
I do hope this is only the first of many more tales to come from you!

Welcome aboard! And ffnet let you post right away. Very good. Like I say, there can't be too many epilogues for an episode and everyone has their own perspective to bring to the issues.
Control (or lack of it) is a very interesting way of looking at it. Mark's shading of his questions is intriguing: 'can I' rather than 'may I'. A subtle distinction, sure, but turning it into a theoretical idea, rather than an actual request. And having him say less, especially at the outset, forces H to say more, producing an almost unprecedented amount of insight from the judge. It builds on 'She Ain't Deep...'. Oh, my, you even sneaked the L word in there with both guys fully conscious and nobody bleeding or nothin'.
Congratulations on the first of many!
