"Take a seat, major!" "Thank you sir!" Mac was relieved for the support the chair provided. In her haste to get to the hospital she had skipped breakfast hoping to catch up on the doughnuts Harriet usually stacked the break room with. Apparently it hadn't been a good idea. The summons to the admirals' den had completely turned her plans upside down and as a result her knees felt weak. The silence between the two stretched almost uncomfortably, both trying to see the crack in the façade put up by the other. Just as Mac thought she couldn't keep it together any longer the admiral interrupted her inner struggle for control. "Colonel… Mac" - So, which rank is Mac's correct one for this fic? The "major" in that first paragraph or the "colonel" in the last paragraph?
