I really like the idea of this story. Very good, but it is hard to read especially chapter 1! It could use some spaces, many spaces.
To answer your question about court sessions: I have no idea, how it is going on. But sometimes on TV crime-shows there are some court things, the only one I can recall is one in Bones (episode 3.13 The Verdict In The Story) if that helps.
Beside the need of more spaces, this story is good and has potential. I think you should continue it.
