Who says the writers don't make mistakes? where did you see a brilliant, sensitive girl with Hermione's logic fall for a qualified dummy who hasn't reached his cro-magnon stage yet?
Why is harry potter condemned with a typical plain, washed out, english female like Ginevra?

And what exactly Dumbledore taught Harry that can compare with Luke's training? Watching the pensieve movies about Voldemort isn't training.
P.S. I'm surprised you never mentioned the similarities between Yoda and Flitwick.

This wasn't exactly a story, but it's pretty good anyways. You have pointed out plenty of similaries that Harry Potter and Star Wars have, but I believe there is more. Anakin and Snape both had bad childhoods, and both cared a lot about their mothers. The both of them also had nicknames, which are Ani and Snape.

Excellent job. You present your argument very logically and simply, yet there remains your individual tone. Haha, Vader always was my favorite-it's no wonder that I also love Snape. Just as it's not surprising that I often ship SSHG, when I first thought (bI mean FIRST TIME, before I knew all the family ties) that there was a certain tenderness between Vader and Leia. (You know that scene when Tarkin has Alderaan destroyed? Remember how Vader is securing her, but also sort of supporting her as she half-collapses? It played in my mind. I believe when I was in my yelling-at-th-TV phase, I used to yell at him that he was holding his daughter right there... But however I might be able to okay SSHG, I just can't get over incest... meh.)
Ummm, so. Rambling aside, thanks for reminding me of how similar my two favorite storyverses are. Have fun and keep writing!

nice but I should tell you that when Lucas first conviced the idea for the project there was suspose to be 2 girls. Leia and Luke's Twin sister. Just as there are two girls (Herminoe and Ginny {3 if you count Luna}) in Harry Potter. It was only becuase Lucas thought three flims enough that Leia was made into a composite of both of them

creepy. if it was a little more formal and you used quotes, you could use this as an essay in a class. its good, but the essay likeness is a little creepy. ;)

I must say this is a brilliant comparison between the two phenomenons .. I agree with all the similarities that you have pointed out ... But I want to add something ... There can be a comparison of : Hagrid & Chewbacca, Fred-George & R2D2-C3PO and Neville & Han's friend [ forgot his name ! ] ... Oh, another coincidence is that Luke-Leia's names start with L and Harry-Hermione's names start with H [ same letters ] and they are both brother-sister duos ! And Ron & Han are similar sounding and they both get the girls !
Anyways, I must also say this that I have realized some of these similarities between Star Wars & Harry Potter few years before and I saw Star Wars just because of the similarities .. Really, I have imagined Harry as Luke, Ron as Han and Hermione as Leia so many times ! So it is really great to see another person having same views ... Cheers !
btw, I am a hardcore RON lover and Ron/Hermione supporter ..

Quite interesting. I especailly liked your comparison of Vader to Faust, I've never thought of that before. Quite an good read. I've often thought about the fact that both Harry and Luke were raised by Aunts and Uncles but I've never put as much thought into the similarities as you have. Well done.
Keep up the awesome work

Hmm, this was well written and funny as well as being thought provoking. I'm sure a few of the die-hards have compared one or two items that are similar, but you have managed address more than most people could find, without making your essay in anyway boring. Kudos! :D

Wow . . . very interesting essay. Hmm, do you know about Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr (Christopher Paolini)? Those stories are very similar to Star Wars and Harry Potter too.

Though this wasn't a story, I thought that it was really creative and fun to read. I agree with all of the comparisons, and I hope you write some more comparisons between stories.

Well, I only know the I-I and IV, V, and VI Star Wars.
The similarities are there, yes, but both are not unoriginal. Harry Potter characterizations come from one of the most talented and ingenious authors of the age, while the relationships between Luke and company in Star Wars, is mostly based on the book, 'Hero with a thousand faces'.
Interesting Essay/fanfic on this. I enjoyed the comparisons, but will have to vote for Harry Potter being superior, owing to my book nerd status.

Wow, you know, I saw a couple of connections between Harry Potter and Star Wars, but not this many. Its amazing how much similarity there is between Harry Potter and the original trilogy. Of course, there's no mention of R2D2 and C-3PO, but maybe the twins and Neville? I dunno, but I totally sgreed with your character comparisions, they're dead-on, though of course they have some glaring differences with their counterparts (which is of course a good thing!). Very good and insightful piece here.
