Neat story. Though,I would have added the story he told Christy about when he carried the mens' hunting gear and they made it possible for him to become a doctor. And I would of loved that if he would of had a vision of Christy in a dream when he's about 16. ( Maybe see her blue eyes) Even though he is supposed to be 10 to 15 years older than her. In your story, it was 1885 and Neil was about 6. If Christy was 20 in 1913 then she was born about 1893. That's about 14 years.

I read the first chapter shortly after you posted it and the second chapter caught me by surprise. It was there but I didn't notice it. Anyway, it's going to be a great story. Always fun to find out what makes our favorite doctor tick.

Creating these situations and character reactions is a little shady to grasp in continuity. . . but it's been a lot of fun gathering the shards of clues and information hidden in obscurity throughout the book and show.
