Something on the bone in an alphabet not the same as ours would not be French. They use the same alphabet we do. Now, if it were Hebrew I could see it, but Brennan speaks a dozen languages and reads more so I find it impossible to believe that she can't read French.
Other than that, this story has potential.

Ok look, I'm sorry you don't like it. She's not re-starting senior year, it was my bad. I typed it wrong alright? She's staying with Abby and she's younger than Abby. Tony has been working there, he just didn't expect Grace to look the way she did. I appreciate the criticism but it was a little harsh. I promise the story's going to be good. I wrote the first chapter when i was sleep deprived and I didn't quite check it over as thoroughly as I should have

Ok, wait a minute. Is Tony supposed to have just started working there or something? Because he'd know if Abby had custody of a teenager otherwise. That's not something Abby would keep secret, especially with someone she's been working with as long as Tony. Also, if Grace is starting her senior year again that would make her, what, at least 18 or 19. So why would she need to be in Abby's "custody". She would be old enough to be considered a legal adult. Staying with Abby? Ok. But Abby wouldn't need to have custody of her. I certainly hope you don't plan on having this teenage girl and Tony having any kind of actual relationship. Or even a two-sided flirting going on. I could see a teenage girl fawning all over him but I would hope that you'd write Tony with the decency to NOT engage or be attracted to someone so much younger than he is because that would make Tony very icky.
