Robotech has the United Earth Government. I don't see Gloval just swearing to be anyone's personal arm's man.
I liked the basic idea of this, but I'm rather mixed on the plan of dumping as many as they could back on Earth.
The computer tech of the SDF is something of a tricky question as well. With all the robotech/overtech stuff being reverse engineered they could have been much farther along in computers. I actually got the sense that they used the I/O of what they were used to, but the behind the scenes was the alien stuff making it much better than mid 90s tech.
I'm not really up on Gundam setting. It has lots of mecha couch mobile suits, but they've got odd tech of their own and lots of space colonies. I don't recall if they were mainly all near earth orbiting and a few lunar stuff.
They had lots and lots of options on who to contact and to trade with. In some respects, they might have been better off just eating an asteroid and building their own space colony to unload folks into.
If they really didn't like the local politics, they could have attempted to leave the system...
The one iffy part was them so willing to use the FTL again. I'd almost think that they'd have felt it was jinxed and not turn on that system at all.
Gundam is a political mess that it doesn't matter who they chat/trade with some sort of conflict would blow up over it.
I know this makes one of the better starting points, but it would be curious if you could use something like the Macross Frontier Fleet in this position.
You could sort of make it a slight Star Trek cross with lots of copies of Earth about... They didn't actually jump to a different universe, but the entire system does look like Sol with the same exact number and types of planets. Something like that would really blow their minds.

I like the idea you have but I would add Macross Frontier & Delta into the mix maybe even Macross 7
you clearly have a great idea, just write it and amaze us with your story _
and to answer you questions, in my opinion:
for Japan you should go full Code Geass
for Tokyo the same but add SDF Macross as something that left the earth before the Britannian Empire made Japan into AREA 11
watch all Macross animes, read all the code geass mangas and watch all the ovas as well as both seasons of code geass
and then write your story as YOU see it fit!

Chapter 6 is a Good,I hope it set in season 1,Well I say The Masters Remnant are set up at Saturn,the REF set up at Mars or Jupiter,the REF makes contact with a group of people EA,s Government and Military like Flay,s Dad and Halberton they help identifies Blue comos/Logos,s members,they slowly wokring to take them down without Zaft taking Advantage.
Like say REF kidnapped Muruta Azrael and take the Extended lab.
Also I say make the Ships and Mecha look like they come from Macross frontier,But they will not overpower a Gundam.
Ther would be more then 5 Gundams maybe two of each type,Zaft will still takes 5,the order 5 stay with the EA,other then Kira,the OC,s pilots of the others are Undercover REF with the job to keep disract Zaft so the Ref and ther Allies can remove the Blue Comos/Logos,s members.
Here are the Seed,s Girls I like to see Hook-up with the Male Ref,s OC.
Ther Natarle Badgirul,Lacus Clyne, and Caglli yula Atnha.
