Oh this chapter gave good insight into how Victoria found herself trapped in a horribly abusive, torturous...I don't even want to call it a relationship. He was so calculating and manipulative, from the beginning, but she ignored the signs. I can sew how she doubted herself and her initial internal alarms.I really feel for Laurent. And that poor child.

The doctor joke is funny. And whew boy, did Carlisle for sure earn that punch in the nose. I nearly choked reading that entire bit. Complaining he was hungry and had a headache while Esme was there suffering throws a drugless labor because he insisted they wait to go to the hospital. My hubby nearly missed my delivery for similar reasons. I had been laboring for hours, all through the night. In the morning the doctor actually suggested my husband run home, for a quick shower and breakfast before heading back. My "darling" husband looked elated, as he nodded in agreement. I asked them both if they'd lost their ever loving minds. Told hubby not to even think about leaving the hospital. Doc said at least let him run down to the cafeteria and grab a coffee and a bagel or something. I was exhausted, hungry, sweaty, but sure go eat. He had to be paged, because despite the doc assuring us both that I wouldn't be ready for at least another hour or two, my baby had other plans. Within minutes of hubby leaving, baby was coming fast. Doc was telling me to push and I was trying to hold back. He walked in the door chomping on a bagel as I was ordered to push. It only took like two pushes. Once it happened, it happened super fast. My Doc and my hubby are very, very lucky he made it back in time. I'm still kinda mad, all these years later. Your Esme/Carlisle story reminded me of my own.

I liked your Charlie. He felt somehow quite canon, while being quite different at the same time. The balance came across as very natural, not all forced.

Excellent addition and fleshing out of your original story! More sad than happy bits, but quite often that is the way life is.
Thank you for leaving your stories up for those of us who weren't around when they were originally posted. I much prefer reading online to reading PDF's.
