*tries to stifle an evil snicker* I love those two together; everything is possible. One moment they bark at each other and the next they're almost - almost! - kind towards each other! Hakim is simply brilliant in this chapter though it doesn't seem Kes shares my opinion there.

"Lost it," he said briefly, passing the reins to Refec, who saluted and led the exhausted horse off to the well.
"Lost it? How do you lose a cape?"
"Surprisingly easily." He raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing awake?"
"Waiting for you, dumbo. You said you'd be back before sunset!"
"Did I?" He shrugged. "My apologies."

Poor Sabatt, I have a feeling Kes might consider her the perfect outlet for her pent-up rage.
On the other hand ... I WANT TO READ THAT!

Rawr! :D I'm enjoying this so very much! Kestral is simply *great*, she has me laughing all the time (okay, she *always* does that!). As always, I absolutely adore your vivid descriptions. As for Wise Boy ... I need to get used to his lighter side, although, of course, I know why he's in such a good mood ... yet. ;-)

Oy! Janub, feels like home ... seriously, I adore your colourful descriptions of that barren land, I have always had a fascination with Janub (as I am sure you can tell). You've already had me laugh several times with Kestral being her usual, wonderful self, so let me tell you that I am impatiently looking forward to more of this! Did I ever mention that Sahir is my favorite mission? It tends to draw one right into the game. Excellent introduction, as usual, your professional writing style is a pleasure to read!
