Oh I loved this so much- it turned out so brilliantly different from how I expected- and I stopped floundering last night too :)

Some wonderful lines such as 'A finely choreographed dance of capture and arrest.' and phrases like 'evil leprechaun'. The imagery encompasses westerns and all manner of avenging angels; not to mention the undead! Gene rising from the coffin is simply superlative.

So many twists and turns in this, very cleverly plotted and classily written. You write Jenette very well - ugh! I love the sentence "He stands in black re-born before the congregation, his hero coat swinging, a solid manifestation adjusting his cuffs. Magnificent in silhouette." Wonderful stuff - please write more A2A stories!

Very mean. Quite an intriguing start - Molly is there but no Gene? Can't wait for more...

I like the way you assemble the scene through small details which all contribute to a rise in tension - what is going on?
Does the image of the good Samaritan have additional significance? Some telling lines including 'She understands now that she's in a church. The knowledge gives her weight.' You capture the funeral mood perfectly with just a few words:'Blank-eyed, determined' & 'shuffling, awkward' - classy.

Yes, that was mean, but this is a very good start to the story. Some lovely phrases - "the monitor bleeped cheerful affirmation of her life" and the description of the light from the stained glass window (have you read John Keats' poem "St Agnes Eve"?) induce a sense of peace and happiness which is dispelled by the horror of the funeral and its blank-eyed participants. So who's entering - Gene?
