I doubt that this story will get updated — after all, it's been six years — but really, I'm inclined to say this sole chapter is timeless. You did great in developing their relationship over the years, although there are several canon deviations that have yet to be explained — had Shinichi ever meet Ran, Heiji, Ai, etc? — so it'll be interesting to see the plot you had in mind.
It's a nice prologue/first chapter, and can stand upright by itself.

You should continue because this is breaking my heart. Shinichi needs to know how Kaito feels before it's too late or something tragic happens, which would mean it's too late. I love Kaito and Shinichi! So many things can happen at the amusement park.

Poor Kaito-Shinichi is too oblivious XD Loved that first meeting with Kaito and Shinichi-"Do we get to bring him home with us?" I laughed so much cause of that.
And yay no Black Orgaization! Do they get to live somewhat regular lives? (As in no shrinking?) I mean I doubt you can call living with Kaitou KID regular...
