for Consultant is a Noun not a Verb

Neal gave in too quick. I’d have made them all miserable about treating me like shit.

Well this was written a long time ago but I just came upon it. I liked it overall but I missed some mention that Neal was grieving at that time in the show and Peter could (should?) have been aware (even if the show made a good job of not showing Neal in that state...). He couldn't think clearly. That explains a lot of what we got to see. Like some other reviewer, I think Peter would have talked with El about the measures he had taken and maybe would have talked with Neal about the pressure from Hughes, perhaps not immediatly but quite soon. As it is, I can understand that Neal felt like he was packed away like some superfluous things nobody cares about anymore. Of course his actions needed to be addressed but it seemed a bit awkward. So it felt strange to hear Peter talking about family all of a sudden at the end.

Stupid, stupid oblivious Peter. I still dislike him for isolating Neal for 3 weeks.

Yay! El is superwoman!
I love her pointing to Peter that he's the one that betrayed Neal.
I love her forcing Peter to think about what he would'vr done if it's El that'skilled.

The first chapter is still my favorite, but I think your Neal is appropriate to the show as well...in some ways he's fundamentally immature and kind of a slow learner (especially since the whole relationship with Kate, after we found out the back story, hardly existed). Peter tries to teach him, but Neal is still (technically) an adult so there's a great deal of push-pull interaction.

I didn't think this was my kind of fic...broad as that category is.

You won me over entirely with "Is that the approved positive verb?" and "Now you are well on your way to becoming a useful contributing member of society…but still a criminal informant with five brownie points."

LOL Peter. I love you forever.

I was not done... Stupid keyboard. Anyway as I was saying...

El was concerned about Neal. That's it. It wasn't a game or teams, so I thought that was in-character too.

I love the parts where you showed the invisible consequences like Peter getting pressured by Hughes and Peter's desire to keep Neal out of prison causing a strain etc. It was well thought out!

On the whole, it was enjoyable! :) And it is actually one of the better post-point blank fics out there.

I liked this chapter the best.

I liked that the 'rules' changed and I don't believe they were too harsh. Neal was given an inch and he flew ten (thousand) miles... He had something like that coming. Which is probably why I liked this chapter. The later chapters, some people said were OOC but I don't think so. Considering you wrote this before 'Burke's seven', there was no way of knowing how people were going to react to what had just happened. It's not everyday that you have to allow the man who caught you to call the shots when it comes to the man who 'killed the girlfriend' and then to have his only other friend get shot...? It's enough for anyone, including Neal to act "ooc".

As for the 'english lesson' maybe that bordering on a little too organized for Peter but I liked it. To me it was a good way of forcing Neal to own up to and accept what he had done. Peter had to be impersonal. That meant no yelling or moaning at Neal so to turn it into a 'lesson' is actually reasonable.

El siding with Neal. I don't sh

That was nice... If Neal didn't manage to recover from all the blow... I think that would be what would happen .

This is an interesting story. I'm someone who felt that Peter was quite right to lay down the sanctions he did in the first chapter. Aside from the fact that Neal put Peter's job (and the jobs of his team) at risk, he betrayed his trust by sneaking around after Kate, keeping secrets and going on his vendetta.

I do wish you hadn't forced sympathy for Neal by having him go on this almost hunger strike as rather than portraying him as an adult who realised what he had done and was truly sorry for it, he came across as a petulant child who decides to punish people by hurting himself to gain guilt and sympathy. I actually didn't feel at all sorry for him by the end chapters and wish Peter and El has shaken him to make him just grow up and take his punishment like a man (after all, it's much better than being carted off to jail, which would have been well within Peter's right to do).

I'm not sure it reflects Neal's true attitude after the Fowler incident, but it's certainly clever.
