Good chapter! I'm glad to know the story behind Edward's efforts now. It makes so much difference to understand! And for Bella to open up to him.
However, when I first saw the Jacob/Bella announcement cliffhanger ending, I thought: Oh no; not *another* 'Edward thinks he's no good for Bella and so he makes decisions for her' situation, for drama's sake- which I find is rather idiotically severe for an all-human scenario- and so I didn't review.
But then I realized: Didn't Bella actually seal this doom upon *herself*? By announcing to the public that she was the "Noble's Lady"- an *extremely* foolish thing to do as it undoubtedly has made her a target now- she has made it *impossible* for Edward to tie himself to her publicly without implicating *himself* as the Noble, and consequently jeopardizing all who are under his protection.
While I'm sure that he *does* feel unworthy of her to some degree, enough to tend in this direction, I imagine that *this*, more than any other reason, would likely be what made such a undesirably permanent action feel ultimately *necessary*. In the end, Bella wouldn't even be able to be mad at him for it- since he simply recognized the implications of her announcement sooner than she did.
That being said, I'll be *really* disappointed if she ends up with less than a happily-ever-after by marrying Jacob. Will E&B have to settle for a private/secret ceremony in order to be together, while hiding their relationship in public? Or simply get all this political situation solved so that there won't be any problem truly exposing their relationship in the end? I'm curious to see how you figure this out!
