I can shed some light on a reason why Naruto seems so much worse off than Kushina and Mito. Kushina and Mito where know consorts of the Hokages, shodiame and yondiame, but Naruto had no strong ties to any villager or ninja. Perhaps Naruto was and easier target for the villagers hatred.

I can think of two very good reasons why Mito and Kushina weren't hated like Naruto was - 1) The Nine-Tails never directly attacked the village before it was sealed into Mito and then Kushina. 2) It was not public knowledge that they were containers as it apparently was for Naruto (major plot hole that). 2b) Alternately, it WAS public knowledge and Naruto is blamed (in a sense rightly so) for the seal breaking and the Nine-Tails attacking on the day of his birth - hey, he might not have had any choice in the matter, but if he'd never been conceived/born the seal wouldn't have been weakened and Madara wouldn't have broken it and set the fox on the village.

Only a few people knew about Mito and Kushina being hosts, like five, at most.

It is especially true for Kushina, 'cause she lived in Whirlpool for most of her life. The new generation of Konoha doesn't know about Naruto, so there. If Sandaime hadn't lost his wits, he would've kept Naruto's status secret from pretty much everyone but select few, but then again we wouldn't have had the story then.
