Good story! I was trying to imagine what had Johnny all flustered when he saw the people in the car. There are all sorts of contraptions from the seventies and even eighties for babies in cars and they were horrible. There was one my nephew had called a carbed. OMG, it was just a little bed strapped in with seatbelts but the baby wasn't strapped into it. So much has changed for the better, thankfully nothing happened to my nephew before car seats became law. There is something new here too that I don't agree with though and it's that car seats are only good for four or five years forcing families to buy more than one depending on the time between kids. I believe instead there should be durability laws so that the seats last for at least ten years because a lot of people with limited finances will be tempted to use old ones. Manufacturers suck these days, even vacuum cleaners only last about two years and now car seats are breaking too? Awful. Great information in your story, thanks, I really enjoyed reading it.

I liked your story, and thank you for the information about child safety seats here in America. I know in Germany that children under the age of 10 had to be restrained in the back seat 25 years ago. I don't think they were allowed in the front seat before the age of 13.
My brother told me about his first date with the woman he would eventually marry. They were on a double date with another couple, and my brother was driving. They saw a car speed by with 2 children bouncing around unrestrained in the back seat. My future sis-in-law demanded that the car be followed, and proceeded to rip into the driver when they, and the police, eventually caught up with the driver.

I feel like I just watched a new episode! Well Done! Thanks for sharing your story and the facts at the end.
I live in Tennessee and had no idea my state was first to require child safety seats. I will say this though...my oldest daughter was in an accident with her grandparents where the truck rolled down an embankment. All the glass broke out of the vehicle. Both grandparents were injured. My two year old was safely tucked into her car seat and didn't get a scratch. I am a FIRM believer in car seats for children and babies.
