Cruel, bad Halt! I don’t think Gilan is going to enjoy his visit to the graveyard very much for some odd reason. I guess the lesson here is to not be bored while you’re doing your studies, not noticeably bored anyhow.

Once again, radha, you give me the humor, good characterizations, and fun plot that I have grown to expect from your stories. Halt and Gilan are portrayed in character. I could well imagine Gilan as a twelve-ish-year-old boy in his boredom with studying, his straying mind, his desire to impress Halt (or at least not disappoint his dad), and his gullible innocence and fear when it comes to (what I am sure will be) a prank from Halt. This feels like the same way Halt plays on Will’s innocence and inexperience in “Ruins of Gorlan” when he allows Will to try to get on Tug or when he lets him shoot the longbow without an arm brace. There is a solemnity and grave seriousness to Halt’s lines that matched his character in the books. And the perfectly placed retort of Halt’s about “asking or telling” was a great in character moment. And of course, he’s as observant as always, in the way he can tell Gilan’s bored and in noticing that Gilan is afraid and trying to hide it. His personal concern about getting “too sympathetic” was also spot on. The way they interact as mentor and apprentice, and as a energetic, naïve young boy and an experienced, calmer older man, was great.

The plot is also amusing, great food for the conflict on which good stories are built, and I could totally imagine something like this having happened during Gilan’s apprenticeship. Halt and Gilan are very competitive toward each other in the books, mostly it seems with Gilan constantly trying to finally get one up on Halt, so this seems like a place where that competitive nature is already coming out with Halt trying to pull Gilan’s leg.

I suspect that subsequent chapters will be equally amusing, and I look forward very much to reading them. Hopefully, your life will give you a little bit of spare time, enough time to type out another chapter and continue this amusing story. I’ll be looking forward to it. Keep on writing!

Can't wait for the next chapter. halt is so irrisponsible but i think Gilan is going to sh*t himself in the next chapter.

I've recently finished Book 2, so please no spoilers beyond that (although your profile sort of spoiled something... *sniffs*). My reaction to the book... "NOOOOOOO!"

Anyways, I like the story! I want to see what happens next! ^^

Haha, Halt can be so mean sometimes (but of course I still love him anyway;P) I was going to write a Halloween story, but time got away from me. Maybe next year. Otherwise it would turn out being a Guy Fawkes Day story as well :P

Duuude, I did the same thing! No, not with the story idea of course, but I just couldn't finish writing the whole Halloween fic as a oneshot so I split it into two :D Great minds, eh?

*cheeky proud grin* I can't help it, buddy. I have a fetish. Admittance is the first step to sanity.
