Just In
for Genma's Daughter

Hey there. I don't know if you're still around and writing, or if you even come here any more, but.. I want to thank you. I've always been an avid reader, even as a kid, but one thing that I had I never understood was why people would read the same book more than once. I mean.. once you finish a story, once you say goodbye to the characters and the world they live in, that's the end. Right?

That's what I had always thought.. but you've shown me that I was wrong. You've shown me first-hand that a truly good story, like a truly good friend, will always be there waiting for you. I can count the books I've read more than twice on a single hand, and these two stories of yours are the only ones I've ever read more than three times.

This story and its sequel are both beautifully written, and when I first read them, I couldn't put them down; I dove through each one in a single sitting! But even now, when rereading them, I can't help but cheer on the characters even while knowing what lies ahead.

The characters.. they're not the most stringently canon characterizations, but if anything, that's one of the greater strengths of the piece. Your work takes the Nerima Wrecking Crew, and shows just how much people can change, even with the simplest of change in premise.

The premise itself, well, it's an interesting one, and one close to my heart. I ought to admit my bias here; I'm trans, and that certainly plays into my deep adoration of the very idea Genma's Daughter is based upon. The moment when Ran-chan is struggling to admit the feelings inside.. The moment when Ran-chan decides to put one foot in front of the other and actually try even though the fear of rejection is nigh-overwhelming.. The moment when everything just starts feeling like a puzzle coming together.. These moments are moments I know viscerally, and from first-hand experience.

Then, slowly but surely, Ranko grows as a person. By the end of Genma's Daughter, your Ranko isn't just a female Ranma, she's so much more. And yet, she still retains the most important and recognizable parts of the impish, impulsive, sometimes-foolhardy martial artist we've all come to know and love.

So again, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this pair of amazing, wonderful, beautiful stories of hope and happiness and staying true to who you are, even if that means a world of change. I haven't read Notes from Juilliard, but if you ever finish it, and I sincerely hope that you do one day, I'll probably read it in one sitting, and then read it again, and again, and again..

Thank you.

This is one of my absolutely favorite Ranma fanfictions of all time. Despite the story being 16 years old, I still make a point of coming back and reading it over and over.

Despite not being 'zany' as is a hallmark of Ranma stories, there is great emotion, a great story line, and thy actually made me think of Ryouga as a - good person.

One of the best Ranma fics out there, IMHO.

I'm rereading this excellent story.
The one thing that has bothered me about it is some minor details.
I'm a Trivial Pursuit type person that when something intrigues me I research the subject. A stray thought of why a male would feminize themselves for pornography, is the money that good or was there something else motivating them like homosexuality.
I immediately ran across a different term (transgender). One thing that popped up during my "research". Three brain scans.
The first being a typical male brain, the second a typical female brain. There are marked differences between them, as in different areas are physically more developed depending on the gender. The third image was that of A male to female transgendered person. This outwardly male person had a brain structure that was not a match for either of the previous brain scans. The male portion of the brain was larger than that of the same area in the female but still markedly smaller than the same area of the typical male brain. The same was true of the female brain comparison.
The theory is that Gender Identity is hardwired into the brain.
Therefore when you had Dr. Tofu state that Ranma had a "normal male brain" clashes with that theory. It has been proven by one incident where a young boy's undecended testicles were inadvertently removed a Psychiatrist using female hormones and therapy tried to make this boy into a girl. This was a test of nature versus nurture. It failed.
Therefore even though this is fiction and fanfic at that it would be nice that it could follow current medical theory.

This was a really great story. Well written, very introspective of the characters and fun to read. Very much worth reading and enjoyable.

A pity this has so few favs and reviews. It is too light on the martial arts and general crazyness that makes Ranma 1/2 into Ranma 1/2, but despite that, it is still a good story. The relationship between Ranko and Ryouga in particular was rather nicely portrayed. It managed to find the sweet spot with enough drama that it wasn't a 2D fairy tale cardboard cut-out, without going over the top with teenage hormones, misunderstandings and general shenanigans.

*sighs happily*

That was absolutely lovely. It's technically tomorrow, now, but considering how many times I got pulled away for this or that while reading this story today I shouldn't be surprised! XD An excellent story!

I've been reading this all day, and the scene with Ranchan crying and realizing "Ranma is dead" finally got me to cry too. The last line of that section was perfect- Ryouga realizing he's turning into Kuno, a little bit, had me burst out laughing.

It's very helpful that the whole school is used to crazy curses and magic by this point- makes the explaining easier and more convincing.

Enjoyed this alot. Really appreciate how much effort you put into writing us practically an entire book! And that work hasn't gone unnoticed. That being said there's a few quirks that seem off to me. You portrayed some characters well, such as kuno's dialect and nabikis attitude of indifference, however some things felt quite out character, akane being the biggest one to me. Most of the time she sounded very much so like a doctor or psychologist of sorts, and it felt really out of place. At times the narrative got a bit too much as well. All the characters felt too geared towards rankos feelings and didn't leave much room for conflict or interesting dialogue. Also, some things felt very blatantly worded, an example being maybe the scene about rankos... time of the month. Instead of dropping all the major clues right away try easing things for longer into a more surprising reveal. Subtlety can go a long way. Overall I really enjoyed this fanfic. Definitely the longest one I've read. And I would really love to see more work from you!

It's an interesting way to end a fanfic
