Morgana does have a weak claim to throne as King Uther's ward, but only if Arthur is dead.
Her magic means she can get the sympathy of magic users, and with a rebellion even the weakest claim to throne is viable.
She's also a bit insane.

Hahahahaha I love this, it's a big plot hole that no one really realizes.
Also, Morgana's a woman, and in some places that could put her out of the running for heir to the throne.
One thing- Gwaine stroked his mustache near the end? Did you mean to have him do that? It just made me pause.

The show changed a lot of the legends. In the legends (the ones I've read anyway) Morgana and Arthur shared the same mother. Morgana's birth parents were Igraine and Garlois, with Arthur's being Igraine and Uther.
Garlois died which enabled Uther to bed with Igraine. So that would technically mean that Morgana is the oldest. But the legends changed loads in the show.
Still, I do think Morgana is older than Arthur in the show, but at this point, who cares?
This is great and I really really do love it! It only makes sense that Gwaine would bring up the question. Cos Gwaine is usually quite observant of things, despite being a drinkloving man.
I love Gwaine.
On a totally unrelated note (maybe not so unrelated) in the legends, Mordred is Morgana's and Arthur's son. I think in most of them the two didn't know they were related until after the deed was done. Morgause convince Morgana to keep the child and that was one of the events that made Morgan le Fay evil.

What I'm thinking is...how did Gawaine, of all people, figure that out? I'm pretty sure that most people would suspect something like that, because I kept thinking about how Morgana would have a claim on the throne, too. But if Arthur were dead, technically, she would be next in line for the throne if she was of age. I think.
