To be honest, Matako never made a deep impression on me. I don't even remember when exactly I saw her in the manga. But this, these 5 glimpses, made me really admire her badassery. Your writing is great, and I absolutely love the idea of each snippet and how they were written.
"In the end it didn't matter because her mother was dead." I don't know why I love this line so much. Maybe it's the lack of comma in the middle, which made it fast and go BOOM. It just had a big impact on me, that line. Well, all 5 glimpses did, and I love you for that. I love you for re-introducing me to Matako so I'll pay more attention to her next time we see her. c:

I liked Matako from her first appearance. I'm not sure what it is about her that I find so winning, except that she makes me laugh, and this fic has much of the same appeal. The bit about the missing Jump - culminating in a secret search of Takasugi's room - had me laughing out loud.

Wow. You know I really never did much like Matako Kijima but after reading this, I think she's become one of my favorite characters. It would be cool if Gintama explored the Kiheitai's member's backgrounds, especially Matako. I really want to know why she's with them, other than the fact that she likes Takasugi.

Oh, somehow along the long road of Gintama I came to really like this character. You really did her justice! :) Although I never disliked her (because Takasugi is very unappealing to me *is shot*), this insightful fic made me realize how great she is. Fantastic job!
