I'm going for a 'Yay! Anothar chapter!' review.
I don't think that Laura and Lizzy are the same person. I think that Laura has taken a Vera-like postion, meaning she's really a spy.
Good job. This chapter was a bit sad, but I agree with Lizzy about women of that day being treated something like Kleenexes. Although I don't think that the Kleenex company had been around at the time... if it was, okay then.
Interesting how they never knew about Mrs. Z's death cause... although this would explain how Rufus knew about tipping the scales of life and Victor did not.

Very interesting so far; I really like it.
A short note of criticism, I think that Nina and Eddie don't have such a... I don't want to say a hate relationship, it's just more vague (I think that's the word).
Other than that, I think it's really interesting. Something about this story I just really like so far. I'm not quite sure what, but it's good. Proper grammar, an interesting plot, and a few funny lines. Great work so far, I'm going to keep reading.
