I've seen a couple of drawings and ideas of this sort of AU where Korra joins the Wolfbats instead of the Fire Ferrets and I'm always willing to see what sort of things people come up out of it. :D I really like how you started the story (I specially like the reaction of the old man to Tahno and Korra's interaction) and I can't wait for more!
