Thanks to everyone who has commented! This was just a bit of fun for me - normally I write non-fiction (magazine articles) and I have to flex my fiction muscles every once in a while. This was a truly beautiful story and very well written. You really captured the emotions of both characters in that specific evening as well as what William might have felt all those previous months. And I LOVED the ending!
