"He'd bared the pain alone"...the one line just really got me. The fact that he'd seen it coming and made it so his weapons wouldn't feel the pain...it was amazing :)

Hell yeah! okay so let's see... I think the surgery could start next chapter, what do you think about painfulness and then maybe a really short clip on them getting used to/ training with the yr new auto-mail? could you remind me on which FMA chapter we are on plz?

Boooo! For messing-up my name XD
First, I wish to mention that surgery can not be performed all at once, it is extremely painful and taxing operation that requires hours of concentration, to operate on that many patients it would take at least a week, as the surgeons(Pinako) would need the rest in between so they would not mess up.
Once again, as no pain killers can be used as the surgeon in that specific operation can not confirm the nerve endings are working properly otherwise, it will be painful, as you know, someone like Kid and Black star can deal with the pain, Maka not so much, after all the operation is much more painful than the amputation. Even more few days passed, there will be a need to amputate some of the healed flesh.
Now, Kid heals fast, so he will need the most surgery when it comes to cutting off the healed flesh, it would be really in character for him to ask to make the stumps symmetrical if they need to cut some flesh anyway.
Then goes the just after operation period, the limbs probably will need to be connected to see if they work(if the surgery will be success anyway) but disconnected just afterwards so the ports can heal. and then when the ports are healed the long and painful rehabilitation can begin.

Hmm. Automail surgery is supposed to be done after the wounds have healed enough to support tissue.
