Oh, I can imagine how much Ed will rage when he finds out everything about Shibusen and it's dealings with souls and it's god(s). He will rage so much that he will dig a hole in the fabric in space-time to reach lord Death and kill him.
Basically it enlist child soldiers via mass in the ruse of a school, and then forces it's students to collect souls and devour them, in anime it's kishin egg souls, in the original it is actually just souls of people Death decided not fir for his rule, they are humans, it was mentioned that a heretic(one that speaks ill about Death can be put as a mark for his soul to be collected). Plus putting death sentence on all witches if they are not working for Shibusel, literally in manga and anime, if you killed a young witch that did not even harm anyone, as long as she is not affiliated whit shibusen it's okay and you will not get punished for it.
Just being something that calls himself a "God" would be enough to make Ed rage, and if Kid tells Ed he is a god as well, legs or no legs he will be punched in the face.

Well, few months fma wise is not that much, after all most major events are quite far in between, we first see Ed in non flashbacks twelve and last seventeen so five years, so all the time in between , either on the road, in the hospital or in the library, mostly in the library. I can see that Maka will love it, so much foreign knowledge to absorb, so little time.
Well, I guess, they will need to change their plans after a while, after all the homunculus business concerns them now as much as it does Elric brothers, with Pride kidnapping them in the first place and all.
