Going off some of your comments, someone has been giving you some grief over this. Don't listen to them, it's a fanfic, your ideas your story. It's well structured well put together, well in line with expectations for Pern. Good story threads, building up well and has any number of ways forward yet. I think you mean hermaphrodite, a hybrid is a mix of two separate, but similar animals, like a horse and a donkey or a tiger and a lion.

Just finished chapter 6. Had an idea about Elizabeth's name. Perhaps she might mention at some point that her mother hated her father - for some reason and gave her the strange name because he had been bragging about getting her pregnant figuring that he'd stop bragging.
Now, saying that James' name isn't a "Pern name" remember, these folks don't remember not living on Pern at this point. Perhaps instead just suggest that it is an odd name and maybe Elizabeth suggesting that perhaps his mother also hated his father.
Rape isn't a common event on Pern because it can get you thrown out of a hold and marked as an "out law" and not have a place during thread fall, but that doesn't change the fact that some people are just asses, as you had that Lord Holder show in an earlier chapter. A pretty girl might end up pregnant with one and his behavior could have her doing something like that.
