Looks promising! A few things to note though:
Since the story takes place in the US, we'd say "gas" instead of "petrol". Additionally it's a bit weird that he goes from Dad to Father, Father sounds very disjointed and stiff (which might be stylistic intention for you). I like Matthew's matter-of-fact narration, will be interesting to see how it intersects with the canon.
