Very nicely done . . . both for the glimpse into Morgan's past, and for the larger point about those left behind (in both senses of the word). Greg, I suspect, is more of a science geek than a literature geek, but he's in good company. Kipling's poem "The Absent-Minded Beggar" reads, in part . . .

Let us manage so as, later, we can look him in the face,
And tell him—what he'd very much prefer
That, while he saved the Empire, his employer saved his place,
And his mates (that's you and me) looked out for her.

True in 1899, when Kipling wrote it for the Boer War . . . still true today . . . thanks for the reminder.

Beautiful! I really loved it, very well written, great story idea! And that last part where Greg says he'll look out for Morgan, that definitely seems like something he'd say, very sweet! Great job!
