I like how you set the tone of realism in this by making Squirtle unable to cross the ocean, even though he is capable of learning Surf.
I like the idea of having to catch Ninetails to protect your Pokemon
And the best part is the irony of a Pokemon having to take its trainer to the Center.
The only nickel and dime grievance I have is how you made Squirtle able to learn Dragon Dance when it can't be bred into him, but whatever. You've got enough working against you in a world where Pokemon die.
