It's not easy to do alone at all. Even if the dad is in the picture it's not easy. I have two kids and one of them has physical disabilities. I am thankful the father helps but we aren't together and it's really hard to take care of kids on your own even without complications such as disabilities. She also should let him know so he can have a say if he wants to be in the child's life. It's only fair to the baby and father and her in a way. At least if he doesn't want to be in their lives then she can still follow through with her plan on doing it alone and won't feel guilty when the child grows up asking where it's father is.
