the 2nd and last paragraph are so spot on…
I savoured every paragraph of this story cos they are so well written.
Mary;s grief and how she lived thru it was painful but now spring comes new beginnings and there are always memories of Matthew's love and their life together. No one can take away that.

Very sad and touching story. Captured Mary's mood perfectly. Well done!

Love that last line. You really capture the sense of the ray of hope that's just starting to break through in canon and Mary's her choice for life

I think you captured plausible grief for Mary so very well. The denial phase of course, with eventual acceptance. Not that it hurts any less (for her or us!). In canon, we will see how Mary moves on with George; as an aristocrat she might be less involved in his daily life - but is that best for a 'poor orphan'? I think Mary will move forward, but I'm not certain that she will remarry, even though she will be encouraged to do so, I'm sure. I've been married for 30 years & cannot imagine changing my ways for a new person. Yet, Mary is still young; maybe she can open her heart again...
