The meaning of "knave" depends on the period. At one time, it simply meant a boy, then came to mean a boy who was a servant. Later it referred to any male servant. Finally, it became a word that meant a dishonest person, a "bad guy," which meaning it retains to this day.
.
"Cur" is simply a derogatory term for a dog, much as we would use the word "mutt," outside of its real meaning of a dog of mixed breeding. As Sir Cadogan would use it, it would translate to today's expression, "you dirty dog," or its vulgar cousin, "SOB."
.
I found this a very enjoyable story. No world-shattering danger, just Harry being a kid. Love it!

This was really good the art work of Hpgwart's always looked so interesting and would have witnessed so much since being painted. I bet they know all kinds of things too some useful some not.
I liked Harry's adventure who he encountered and how long he was gone. I hope he goes on another adventure and on his own. I wonder if being nice to Lady Ravenclaw would make getting a certain Horcrux easier.
Knave is a cunning untrustworthy man or servant and a cur is a contemptible person. Both are common insults for knights to use on those of lower rank or standing. Cadogan could easily be insane but I think he is just a rather poor knight or someone who wanted to be one but was not. Maybe he is a student who has been having too much fun in the paintings to come back out of the art work.
Thanks for this I hope you post another story some time.
