Paige had once felt self-conscious whenever she walked into a crowd of programs. I'm the only one with red circuits, she would think. But that was a long time ago. She was a different program now.
Over the cycles, they learned to clear a path whenever she walked by and though it used to bother her, she coped with it. Unflinching and unrelenting, programs learned not to mess with her. Of course, there was the occasional troublemaker who thought they could make a fool out of her and they learned the error of their assumption the hard way. Her red circuitry intimidated others to the point that they looked away and avoided eye contact. In addition, the dangerous aura she emitted gave everyone the impression that she was just as harsh as she looked.
Everyone but him.
Beck was sitting on a bench, his leg bouncing up and down with his forearms resting on his thighs. His head was staring in the opposite direction and his eyes were distant.
When she approached him, he turned his head and looked up at her. She noted that his smile quickly faded as his eyes widened.
She saw him bit back a grin. "Whoa, what did you do with your hair?" he asked.
Paige put her hand on her hip. "You act as if I recoded it pink."
Beck just stared at her. Her dark hair that was normally pulled back into a tight bun was loose and now it brushed past her shoulders, framing her face yet the fringe still covered the left side of her face.
"What's the occasion?" he asked, standing up.
"I just wanted to keep it down today. You don't have to like it. Not like I care."
"Always the first to get offended," he said under his breath. She punched his arm. Beck's smile only grew wider. "Don't worry. You look cute."
"Oh, shut up."
"No, seriously."
"So, you're telling me I looked better than before?" she inquired. "Is that what you're implying?"
Beck pushed her hair aside. "It doesn't matter. As long as you don't change who you are."
"Uh huh," she said, unconvinced.
Silently, they started walking out of Argon Square and headed for the station. Once they were at the booth, Beck turned to her.
"Do me a favor?" he suddenly asked.
"What?"
"Smile."
Paige stared at him.
"Why?" she finally asked.
Beck shrugged. "Can't hurt to wear something other than a frown. Especially when your hair is down. Besides, I want to see the other side."
Beck was saying some weird things today.
"What are you talking about?" She demanded.
"Smile."
"Why?" she repeated.
"Just do it."
"You trying to give me a hard time?"
"I don't have to try," Beck said lightly. "I'm just good at what I do."
"Cute."
Beck tilted his head. "Are you mad at me?"
"Does it look like I'm mad at you?" she retorted. She sounded irritated but the edges of her lips were tilted up.
"Kind of. Now," Beck grinned at her. "There's that smile."
Paige rolled her eyes. She always dropped her soldier act whenever she was around him. She couldn't pinpoint why. He was just a mechanic; just her friend.
They continued walking in silence, side by side, lost in their own thoughts. Paige didn't realize she was still smiling until they boarded the train.
Well, I claimed on tumblr that I would make a fanfiction that details what I think would happen in Season 2 of Tron: Uprising. I still have to wrap up my other story but here I am, making oneshots of my favorite couple.
This short story is just what I think their "dates" would consist of if Beck and Paige continued seeing each other. Please drop a review and tell me what you think and good day!
