D-a-d-d-y

Daffodils were sweet things in the breeze, their scent
a reminder of the happy times they forged together,
day by day, week by week, slowly overcoming the smell of
dense ash on that death day, where they lay down their first
yellow petal, for the comfort, and now reality, of happy futures.
