She had never run so fast in all her life, but even so, there wasn't much time.
"Are you ready for this?" Storm asked gently. Bloodrose didn't miss the underlying urgency in her tone. There would be no time for preparing.
Bloodrose nodded, but inside she felt anxious. The last time she had come here was when she had first come to NightClan with Guiltheart. It seemed so long ago. She looked up, and breathed in relief when she saw that despite there still being daylight, the moon was visible. The pool behind the waterfall alongside the mystical flower would still glow.
Despite her exhaustion, she made her way to the cliff face and pressed against it as she crawled underneath the crashing water. Normally this would terrify her, but all she felt now was the desperation of getting StarClan on her side. And yet...she was about to meet her mother...and possibly Burnheart and the other NightClan cats... The emotion was too much for her, but there was no longer a choice. She crouched underneath the flower alongside the pool, as described to her by Guiltheart, and she dipped her nose into the pool. Within moments, she was asleep on the puddle rim.
...
When she opened her eyes, she was in a magnificent clearing. Cats of all clans surrounded her, but it was impossible to differentiate between them. They all stared at her intensely. Then one of them came forward, a massive tabby tom.
"Greetings. From which Clan do you come?"
Bloodrose paused, not even sure herself. "My name is Bloodrose. I have been LeafClan, NightClan and MountainClan. I have come to see a specific few cats. It is important, and if I don't the clans may face a second Blood War."
There were murmurs of concern around her, and then the tabby spoke, "why are you so worried? This is a simple battle over stealing. It is true, StarClan does not know or see all, but if it were as bad as you say, medicine cats and leaders would have approached us."
"They do not know," Bloodrose let the fear show in her voice now, " there are ghosts in the forest who want to create a world of blood-"
"My dear, you are not quite in your own mind, let me help you."
"No! I can prove it. Let me speak to my mother, Sympathyheart!"
"Your mother is not amongst is currently."
"Then send her a message from me. Tell her Lost Soul-"
"Lost Soul?" The interruption came from a tom cat, who stood close behind the tabby. Immediately, Bloodrose knew who he was. He was a cream color with pale red spots and his eyes were an unbelievable shade of green.
"You're Cherrywish's father. You know the ghosts."
The tabby looked shocked, but his friend walked up to Bloodrose before he could protest.
"Correct. I never saw much of them. My daughter or Lost Soul. But I came across him once, a ghost by the name of Laura told me. I knew her well, I should hope she watches over my daughter?"
Hope gave Bloodrose energy. "Yes, she does! So you must believe me! I know StarClan's view of the living is very limited, but can you meet with the clan leaders, or send another cat to stop the war?"
"I will do my best to stop the clans from battling today. But surely it will happen eventually?"
"Not if we can help it."
He dipped his head. "Tell my daughter I love her." And he, now leading the confused party became to sprint away.
Bloodrose was about to close her eyes to return but a thought occurred to her. "Wait!"
They turned to her.
"Is Burnheart here?"
The tabby answered. "There are no cats of that name amongst us."
...
"And?" Storm asked, as soon as Bloodrose had awoken.
"They're going to try convince the leaders not to battle today."
"Good. It is nearly sunset, so let's hope they hurry."
"And there's something else. Burnheart is alive. If I can find him and get him out alive, we might be able to stop the battle even if StarClan fails."
Storm looked at her steadily. "I know what you're thinking, and I don't like it."
"I have to do this. If I don't he could still die. They'll take me back to Wisp, I know they will. And they won't harm Burnheart immediately. I know Wisp."
"You knew him. Bloodrose, it's dangerous."
"I doesn't matter. Wouldn't you do the same for Sky?"
Her eyes darkened. "The quickest way is through NightClan territory along the LeafClan border."
