Riley grunted in pain as they carried him throughout the Bebop. "Dammit!" He shouted, clenching his side.
"Spike, we've got to hurried. He's only been grazed but he's losing a lot of blood." Faye muttered.
"I know! I'm trying!" Spike said, his voice laced with panic.
"Riley! Are you okay?!" Jessie asked, grabbing his bloody hand. Riley smiled his face contorted in pain.
"Yeah, I'm okay." He lied. Truth is, the bullet left a pretty big gash on his side and he's losing a lot of blood. His vision was starting to get blurry and he was starting to get dizzy. He began to think of the man who had shot him. He had shoulder-length gray-white hair and beady gray eyes. He looked worn and tired, but angry. There was dark circles under his eyes and he had a sword resting on his back. He had asked for Spike and Spike clearly recognized him. Who was he?
Riley grunted when they put him on the yellow couch, his blood seeping through the cushions. Jet looked at the alarmed. "What's going on?"
"Riley's been shot." Faye muttered.
"Yeah, I got that much."
"I can't talk right now!" Faye exclaimed. She looked to Spike, who was staring at Riley with a guilty expression. "Spike." She said. Spike's eyes met hers and she gave him a stern look. "Not now." She muttered, knowing he was currently blaming himself for Riley's injury. "I need you to get me some gauze, needle and thread. It should be in the bathroom, hurry."
Spike nodded and took of to the bathroom. Jet came beside her with water and some towels. Faye ripped Riley's shirt down the middle and revealed the wound. She grimaced slightly, a chunk of meat has been torn from his body. He was bleeding pretty badly. Faye dipped a towel in the warm water and looked up at Riley. "This is gonna hurt like hell." She said. Jessie grabbed Riley's hand tightly as Faye applied the towel to the wound. Riley hissed out and squeezed Jessie's hand as she looked at him worriedly.
Faye began to clean the wound, once she got all the blood off of him, she began to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. Spike came back with the stuff she needed and looked to Riley worriedly. Faye's eyebrows were furrowed concentration. "Spike, hold the towel there and apply pressure." Faye ordered. Spike did as he was told with shaky hands. Faye began to thread the needle, when she was done she looked over to Riley with a sympathetic expression. "This is gonna hurt even worse." She said.
"Just do it." Riley said, his voice shaky.
Faye nodded. "Try not to move too much." She told him. Faye looked at Spike. "I need you to keep wiping off the blood, he's gonna bleed a lot." She told him. Spike nodded and lifted the towel. Faye began to get to work, she inserted the needle into his skin and Riley grunted in pain as he squeezed Jessie's hand tightly.
Faye's hands were steady as she stitched up Riley, Riley tried to not move too much. But every time that needle entered his skin, he would wince. The gunshot wound was already burning and with the stitching happening, it wasn't helping it at all.
Soon Faye was done and all Riley wanted to do was pass out. Faye carefully cleaned off the blood and wrapped his torso, she looked at Riley with a small gentle smile. "Get some rest, we'll talk when you get up." Faye promised. Riley nodded and closed his eyes, instantly falling into a much needed deep sleep.
Faye looked over at Jessie, she had worry written all over her face. Faye noticed she was covered in Riley's blood and sighed. She stood up and looked to Jessie. "Come on, I have some clothes that you can fit. You need to get cleaned up." Faye said with a wary smile. Jessie smiled shakily and nodded before following Faye out of the room.
Spike plopped down on the coffee table and put his head in his hands. Jet sat in the armchair as he watched his friend warily. Spike sighed and shook his head. "This is my fault." He muttered.
"You didn't shoot him." Jet said, trying to help his friend.
"Yeah, but I might as well. Seems like my past is catching up to me." Spike said, staring at his sleeping friend. Spike chuckled and shook his head. "I've know Riley almost all my life..." He started. Jet sat back and watched Spike, Spike was tense and worried. He wasn't used to seeing Spike like this, ever since Riley came around it seems like the the usual Spike left the building. "Riley's parents were friends with my grandmother and checked on us all the time, me and Riley soon became friends even though we were total opposites." Spike explained.
"He's a good guy." Jet offered. Spike sighed and nodded, smiling warmly at his sleeping friend.
"He was always the good guy." Spike muttered. "Riley was the quiet guy, I was the cool guy. Riley used to be very shy and he would only speak to me... I was his only friend. When Riley's parents died, I was there for him. Instead of crying all the time like I expected him to do, he changed. He became stronger, not a crybaby like he used to be... But when my grandmother died, I changed. I turned cold and Riley turned into a goofball, always trying to make me happy and laugh..."
"Then you left." Jet deadpanned. Spike nodded.
"I left him alone here." Spike said. "And now he's different but he's the same... And I almost got him killed." Spike muttered.
"Who was that guy?"
"He's the reason Julia's gone."
Faye sighed in relief once she was clean and in clean clothes. She glanced over at the woman who chose a white sundress that Faye didn't know she had. Jessie was putting her long blond hair up into a ponytail as Faye watched her. Riley told her that Jessie looks like Julia, Julia the woman that Spike fell for.
"You know... When I first saw Riley we were kids." Jessie started, looking over at Faye. Faye raised a brow, staying silent as she watched the woman. "I saw him, walking along with Spike. He was quiet and always looking down at the ground, never making eye contact with anyone." Jessie explained. Faye cocked her head to the side, from what she could tell about Riley he was everything but quiet. "He followed Spike around like a lost puppy and when Spike left, Riley changed himself."
"You mean into the person he is now?"
Jessie smiled at her and laughed quietly. "Yeah, he's still the same Riley though. He changed his hair and his clothes, even the way he talked. But me, I could see that little shy boy inside him. He was always different from the others, sweet and kind. He stole, sure, but he was the nicest guy anybody could ever meet."
"He's pretty nice." Faye agreed.
"Is he going to be okay?" Jessie asked. Faye looked over to Jessie, her eyes were wide with worry and she seemed tense. Faye smiled softly, Jessie really liked Riley.
"It's just a graze, he'll be fine." Faye said rolling her eyes. She stood up and gave Jessie a grin. "He's just a baby."
Jessie chuckled and nodded. "I guess you're right."
"C'mon, let's go back to the boys."
Spike, Jet, Faye, Jessie, and Riley all sat in the living room. Everyone was looking at Spike expectantly as he stared down at his hands. Riley sighed and irritated sigh.
"Spike." He said, his voice snappish. Spike looked up at Riley with a blank look. "Who the hell was that guy? He asked for you." Riley said.
Spike sighed and shook his head. "That guy... that guy was Vicious." Spike said.
"What?" Faye asked, surprised. "How does he even know you're alive?"
Spike shrugged. "I don't know, but he knows and he's gonna be after me." Spike said.
"So what's the game plan?" Jet asked.
"The game plan is that I leave." Spike muttered.
"What?!" Faye and Riley exclaimed in unison.
"You just got back! I just got you back!" Riley said angrily. Spike looked down.
"You don't understand-"
"NO! You don't understand! You're just not gonna let me get shot and then leave! You're gonna stay." Riley said angrily. "It's time to stop running away from your problems, Spiegel." Riley said, glaring at the man. Spike glared back at him.
"What do you suggest we do then?" Spike snapped.
"I say we fight him." Faye said, standing up. "He wants you? He has to go through us." Faye said, putting her hands on her hips.
"That is a suicidal plan." Spike said.
"So? There's a team of us and one of him, the odds are in our favor." Faye said, shrugging her shoulders.
"You obviously don't know what Vicious is capable of." Spike said, shaking his head.
"And he doesn't know what we're capable of." Riley retorted. "I'm done with watching you walk away Spike, we can do this together."
Spike sighed and threw his hands in the air. He began to pace back-and-forth. "We need Ed." He muttered.
"I'll get her." Jet said standing up. "And here I thought it was gonna be a relaxing vacation on Mars." He muttered as he walked away.
