Sorry we haven't posted it so long. School got into the way. So we are totally upset about tonight's episode and thought we all need this. So here goes...

Owen busted into her office like a storm. For him, Amelia has become his best friend. It was not a title he gave to many people. Of course, he still called Teddy once in a while but it was not the same than what he had with Amelia.

"Are you okay? I just saw Meredith in the ER-"

"I'm fine Owen. You should go and help Mer. Is she okay?"

"I sent her to get a head CT but everything looks good for now."

Amelia sighed in relief. Derek is going to kill her. How could she mess things up so bad? How could she bear the guilt of killing her sister-in-law.

Owen's pager caught their attention.

"Go," she simply said.

He nodded and ran off. It was not a 911 but it was urgent. They must've found something, he thought.

Dr. Bailey rushed the interns and the nurses. This was big, bigger than the last time: they had to do a surgery on Meredith was to take out her spleen. The woman called her work husband.

"Hey Bailey."

"Dr. Webber, I need you here as soon as possible," she said trying to be sound panicky.

"What's wrong?"

"Meredith…" she paused. "Meredith is here."

"Yeah, Amelia came to pick her up earlier."

"No… They got into an accident. It's pretty bad. I need your help for her surgery."

Without any more explanation, Richard left Maggie with the kids and rushed to the hospital. Meredith is the closest thing he had to a daughter before he met Maggie. Even then, Meredith is a complete different story.

Derek ran through the halls of the familiar hospital. He had never been so scared. Even when Bailey was born and Meredith had complications he knew she would be okay. Derek had seen car crash victims throughout his career and he didn't know enough about the accident to know Meredith would be okay. He needed to find her. He ran to the nurses station and a familiar nurse told him Meredith's room number before he could even ask. When Derek entered the room his wife was nowhere to be found; instead he was face to face with his sister.

"Where is she?" Derek asked with impatience.

"She's in surgery." Amelia answered in a quiet voice.

"What OR?"

"You're not going to watch her surgery Derek." She told him.

"To hell I'm not Amelia! She's my wife!" Derek yelled.

"How many husbands do you let watch you operate on their wives Derek? Just because you were a doctor here doesn't mean that you have special privileges. You're going to have to sit and wait here just like me."

"I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you." Derek huffed and took a seat in the room across from his sister.

"You don't get to put this on me. The other car ran the stop sign, not me."

"You should have seen it."

"I'm not God Derek! I don't have superpowers as much as I wish I did, but I don't! I would give anything to trade places with Meredith right now and you know that. She has a family, she has all these people who love her and care about her and I -"

"You do too Amelia. I'd be just as angry if it were you in there. I just...I don't know what I'll do if she isn't okay." Derek began to sob.

"She's survived a lot from what I've heard. A car crash? Barely a scratch for Meredith Grey." Amelia joked.

"She's going to be okay, right?"

"You know I can't promise anything."

"Do you think she'll be out soon?" Derek asked nervously.

"Why don't you go home and see your kids? It might help take your mind off of-"

"I'm not leaving the hospital Amelia. The last thing I need is to break down in front of my kids because I can't tell them when their mom's coming home."

"Okay." Amelia agreed.

Maggie walked around Meredith and Derek's living room, cradling Bailey who was much too big for her arms. He was half asleep, thankfully. He'd been screaming at the top of his lungs minutes ago, wanting his mother.

"Hey Meredith it's Maggie, guess the patient's worse than you expected huh? Anyway, things are great here, Richard left but I'm fine things are good. Call me back when you know when you'll be home, your kids miss you already." Maggie sighed and hung up her phone.

She could manage kids for a couple hours, right? She didn't mind doing it, but she had surgery later and she didn't have car seats and the whole thing was slowly turning into a mess the more she thought about it. Maggie did a double take at the clock on her phone.

"Shit."

"Maggie, what are you doing here?" Amelia asked as she saw the doctor walk towards her, Bailey on her hip and Zola gripping her hand.

"You're not in surgery? Is Meredith out of surgery? I tried to phone but I couldn't get a hold of her and I drove here like twenty miles under the speed limit because I didn't have car seats but I had a surgery."

"Maggie, um, can you take the kids into the room with Derek? I need to talk to you."

"Sure?" Maggie responded, confused.

Maggie lead the kids into the patient room where Derek sat looking tired and rundown. The kids faces immediately lit up seeing their dad and Derek seemed to as well. He held them tightly in his arms and Maggie returned to the hallway.

"Where is Meredith?" Maggie asked sternly.

"We were in an accident, She's in surgery I don't know how bad it is we haven't been told anything I was on my way to get an update."

"I'll go. You stay with your brother."

"He, Derek he doesn't do well with other people in stressful situations. Me being in the room with him is not a good idea right now." Amelia told her.

"Fine. We'll both go." Maggie said and started walking. She froze and turned back around. "I don't know where she is so I'll follow you."

Derek poked his head out of the room and looked for any familiar face.

"Karev, Stevens!" He yelled at the two doctors who stood at the nurses station.

"Shepherd? Why are you back?"Alex asked.

"Meredith, there was a car accident, she's in surgery."

"Is she going to be okay?"

"I don't know I haven't been told anything." Derek huffed in frustration, running his fingers through his hair.

"Whatever you need, don't hesitate to ask." Izzie attempted a comforting smile.

"Do you think you could watch the kids for awhile? I can't, I don't want them to see me like this." Derek sighed.

"Sure, we'll take them to the attendings lounge so they're close if you need to get them. Okay?" Izzie said.

Derek nodded and lead his kids to Alex and Izzie. The kids happily trotted off with the two doctors and Derek collapsed back into the chair he had been sitting in earlier. He pulled out his phone and stared at it for a few moments before sucking in a deep breath and dialing a familiar number.

"Dr. Shepherd, you were in quite a rush today."Olivia said.

"Is he in? It's urgent." Derek stated.

"What is this in regards to, Dr. Shepherd?"

"Personal matters have come up."

"Please hold." Olivia said, Derek waited anxiously for his new boss to answer.

"Derek?" The President spoke.

"Mr. President." Derek said formally.

"Is everything alright? You left pretty quickly today."

"My wife was in a car accident -" Derek began.

"Is she alright?"

"She's still in surgery, I haven't been told anything."

"Feel free to take some time off if you need to."

"That's very kind but unfortunately I'm calling to resign."

"We'll be sorry to see you go Dr. Shepherd but I understand. Family comes first, I have no doubt in my mind your wife will pull through."

"Thank you, Mr. President. It's been a pleasure working for you."

"You were a great asset to our team, hope they'll be able to manage without you."

"I have no doubt they will."

"I wish you the best. Good luck with all your future endeavors." The President said formally before disconnecting the line. Derek let out a sigh and smiled slightly. He just quit his job.

All he wanted was to tell Meredith he was back, and he was back for good. That this car accident was a wake up call to everything he had a chance at losing. He needed for her to be okay so he could tell her this. She needed to be okay.
