A short time later...
Everyone is in the waiting room waiting on David's test results. Niles and Ashling as well as Emily, Jordan and Jordan's family finally arrived and joined the rest of them. As soon as Daphne saw her husband, he approached her and she fell into his arms, her eyes wet with tears. Her concern and worry for her son evident on her face. Niles puts aside his worries and concerns for his son so he can focus on comforting his wife. Jordan is holding Emily as she has her face buried in his chest. Ashling is sitting on the couch in the waiting room with her knees pulled up to her chest as she stares straight ahead. Frasier, Roz, Donny and Ronee have not arrived yet.
Jordan's parents went to the chapel to pray for David, they feel that's the best thing they can do for him right now.
Eventually Frasier, Roz and Donny arrive and are immediately concerned and worried about David. Roz sees Ashling sitting alone on the couch, so she sits down next to her and puts her arm around her. This seems to bring Ashling back to reality as she turns her head and sees Roz. She smiles as she leans into Roz and wraps an arm around her. Not a single word is said as they continue to sit on the couch and comfort each other.
Frasier gives his brother and Daphne hugs to let them know he's there for them and spots Donny as he strikes up a conversation with him.
They are wondering what is taking Ronee so long to arrive because they know how important David is to her and her to him. She has been pretty scarce since Martin's death and only shows up occasionally to say hi. She spends a lot of time at work in order to keep her mind off of Martin's death. If she didn't have Belle, the dog around to keep her company she wouldn't be able to function at all.
The doctor finally arrives to give them David's test results. Niles is the one to spot him as he greets him.
"Hello, doctor. What can you tell us about our son?"
Daphne sniffles and wipes her eyes as she looks up at the doctor.
"Dr. and Mrs. Crane, I ran many tests on David to figure out what's causing his headache."
Daphne finds her voice.
"What's causing David's headache?" she asks.
The doctor gives her a slight smile before answering.
"Thankfully, from what I can tell, it's nothing serious. We ran a cat scan on David's brain and saw no abnormalities, we did an x-ray of his head and didn't see anything of concern either. The blood tests we ran showed a mild infection in his blood but that's not uncommon after surgery."
"So what's causing the headache then, doctor?" Niles asks.
The doctor looks at Niles.
"We have come to believe that it's due to his head injury from the accident. It's not uncommon to suffer from severe headaches after head trauma. David will probably get these headaches for quite awhile but they are nothing to be too concerned about." he says reassuringly.
Niles and Daphne feel like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders after hearing the doctor tell them that David's headache isn't anything serious.
They both laugh and hug each other.
"Thank you doctor." they exclaim as they pull out of the hug.
"No problem, Dr. Crane, Mrs. Crane." he replies as he shakes their hands.
Before he excuses himself he says something else.
"I am going to put David on an antibiotic for the infection in his blood, it should clear up in a few days."
Niles and Daphne nod and smile at the doctor as he excuses himself. They then approach the rest of the family as they give them the good news.
A short time later...
They all make their way back to David's room and see him still asleep. Daphne approaches his bed, leans over and gives him a kiss on his forehead. David opens his eyes and looks around. His eyes spot his mother as she looks down at him, smiling. He smiles back at her.
"Hey, sweetie. I have good news for you." she says as she stands up straight.
David sits up in bed and looks at his mother.
"What is it, mum?"
"The doctor just told us that your headache isn't serious and that it's quite normal to get headaches like the one you got after suffering head trauma. He said that you will probably be getting these headaches for awhile but they are nothing to be concerned about."
"I'm glad to know that it's nothing serious but I have to be honest that I'm not looking forward to dealing with it on a regular basis. Whatever the doctor gave me for the headache got rid of the headache, so apparently it works."
"I will talk to to the doctor and find out what it was that he gave you and once you get out of the hospital, we can continue to use it for your headaches."
"I can't wait to get out of here, mum. I'm ready to go home."
"I know you are, sweetie but you will only have to be in here for a few more days. Just think that if you hadn't already been here when you got that headache, we wouldn't have been able to get you the help you needed right away."
"That's true. I guess I don't mind staying in here a few more days."
Niles has been listening to Daphne and David's conversation and he mentions when he was in the hospital and how much he hated it.
"I had to stay in the hospital for months, not days and there were times I thought I would go crazy being in here for so long but I made it through and so will you, David." Niles explains.
"Right, dad." he says as he grabs his father's hand.
Niles smiles at his son as he squeezes his hand.
Everyone else takes turns talking to David, happy that he's going to be okay. Before long the doctor comes in to talk to David about the infection in his blood and what he plans to do to treat it. David is okay with it because he will do anything he can to be out of the hospital as soon as possible.
Eventually, Michelle shows up for her daily visit, so everyone leaves the room to allow David to be alone with her. Ronee finally shows up with gifts for David, which explains the reason why she took so long to get there. She's happy to know that David is okay and can't wait to see him and give him his gifts.
Since they know David is doing okay, they decide to all go out to dinner and promise to bring David back something to eat.
Jordan's parents decide to head on home but allow Jordan to go to dinner with Emily's family, as they will bring him home later. Emily is happy that his parents are allowing him to come along because it means she gets to spend more time with him, before school is out and he goes on vacation with his family. Emily realized that she would rather spend the summer with her family rather than Jordan's because she would miss them too much and knows that Jordan's family needs to spend some time together without her tagging along. Besides, she can't pass up going to England! How many people get the opportunity to go to another country?! Emily finds herself very lucky in so many ways and she couldn't ask for anything more.
Jordan says goodbye to his parents as he walks them out as Emily's family decides where they are going to have dinner. She can't wait to find out where they are going!
