Epilogue
2 years later
Nico
Hazel hoisted herself up onto Arion and helped the new demigod girl climb up in front of her. She looked nervously back at the monsters that were quickly gaining on them. The other new demigod, a boy about eleven years old, Roy? Crossed his arms and pouted.
"I want to ride with my sister!"
"Same here." Nico said, looking at Hazel. He wasn't fond of the idea of splitting up, but there was no way Arion could carry four people and they didn't have time to figure out another way back to camp.
"But we don't have a choice but to split up right now. We'll meet up again as soon as it's safe."
Hazel nodded. "We'll see you again in thirty seconds tops." She said, before spurring Arion on and racing down the street.
Nico grabbed Roy's wrist. "Hang on tight!" He said, before they both melted into the shadow.
Nico focused in on Camp Olympus, he had to get Roy to safety.
Hazel usually handled these rescue missions on her own. She was a natural at it, with her mist-bending powers and sound-barrier breaking horse for quick getaways. Not to mention her fighting skills, but she had called Nico in for backup when she found Roy and Lauren. They were obviously extremely powerful, and the monstrous army on their tails was unlike anything anyone had seen since the great battle against Gaea.
Nico cursed as he felt his grip on the young demigod's arm slipping. He pulled them both out of the shadows before he could lose the kid completely and they tumbled out into a random field with a lone farmhouse standing in the distance. Nico grinned as he realized where they were.
Roy scrambled to his feet.
"Where are we? Where's my sister? This isn't it is it?"
Nico was about to answer when the air in front of them shimmered and an image of Hazel appeared, standing in front of a very scared looking Lauren.
"Okay, there are way more monsters around than we thought." Hazel said. "Lauren and I are gonna have to cut this trip short and head to the nearest safe house."
Nico smiled. "No problem! We're kind of already there."
The image of Hazel dissipated and about five seconds later a blur of bronze raced into the field. Arion slowed to a stop just long enough for Hazel and Lauren to get off and then galloped away again.
Roy ran up and hugged Lauren. "What happened to you guys?"
"We can talk later." Hazel said. "Right now we need to get into that house."
The inside of the safe house was nothing like the outside. Machines and mechanical parts were strewn everywhere. Potted plants hung from the ceiling, their flowery tendrils hanging down and creating a jungle-like effect. A delicious aroma drifted in from the kitchen. They all stepped inside and Hazel called, "Leo! You in here?"
A clatter sounded from the kitchen and Leo came in, holding a steaming tray of biscuits with his bare hands and wearing a 'kiss the cook' apron.
"Hazel! Death the Kid! Oh, have we got some newbies?"
"Yeah, this is Lauren and Roy."
Lauren was looking around in wonder. "What is this place?"
"A safe house!" Leo said. "We've got them set up all over the country now, a place for demigods to stop when they're on quests and stuff. Or in your case, when they're on their way to camp. Have a biscuit?"
They each took one and settled into the living room while Leo brought out a pot of stew.
"Where's Calypso?" Hazel asked.
"Oh, she's traveling. She's determined to visit every country in the world. She's gotten to about half of them now." He turned to the kids. "So, are you claimed or undetermined?"
"Claimed?" Lauren asked.
"By your godly parent." Nico explained. "They're supposed to claim all their children by the time they're thirteen."
"Then no, but mom said we have different dads."
"That explains why you two look so different." Leo said.
It was true; Lauren had curly brown hair, green eyes, and a round face, while Roy was blonde with gray eyes and had an angular face covered with freckles.
"Do you think this means only one of them is a demigod?" Hazel asked.
Nico shook his head. "No, they're definitely both half-bloods. They have the aura."
"You know, that could explain why so many monsters are after them." Leo said.
"What do you mean?" Roy asked.
Leo fidgeted. "I mean- well, Gods have a tendency to get jealous."
"No way." Lauren gripped her brother's hand. "No way are we going to your crazy camp with your crazy gods who don't show up for their kid at all until they try to kill them 'cause their mom had a kid with a different god! Take us home!"
Nico swallowed. "If we take you back, you'll just run into more monsters. We're trying to protect you we promise."
"I don't care! I don't want any part of it!"
Hazel knelt in front of her. "None of us do, but we don't have a choice. We're Demigods. You have options, but going home and dying by monster attack isn't one of them. If we head back to camp, just for a day, we can figure something out for you guys, okay?"
Lauren glared at her. "One day."
The moment they stepped into camp, Nico's Goddaughter, Adelfi, zoomed in on a cloud and tackled him with a hug, nearly knocking him over.
Nico laughed. "Hey there, where are your parents?"
Just then Reyna came running up the hill.
"Adelfi- you need- to stay where- I can see you." She panted.
The two-year old cloud nymph floated over to her and settled comfortably on her shoulders. She used her wind powers to pick up Reyna's braid and laughed when it flew out behind her like a flag, tickling her face.
"Babysitting duty?" Nico asked.
Reyna smiled dryly. "You're not the only ones on recovery missions. Coach Hedge got a call to big to handle on his own, so I'm watching this one until her mom and dad get back." She lifted Adelfi off her shoulders and set her on the ground, then turned to Lauren and Roy. "New Recruits?"
Roy, who had been staring at the camp in awe since they arrived, said: "Yeah!"
Lauren crossed her arms. "No!"
Just then, two glowing symbols appeared in the air over their heads, and as he saw what they were, Nico cursed under his breath.
Over Lauren's head was a swirling green trident, and over Roy's was the silver owl of Athena.
"FUCK!" Hazel said, before covering her mouth as she realized there were children there.
"Of all the Godly rivalries…" Nico muttered.
"What?" Lauren asked. She looked above her and yelped. "What is that?!"
Reyna was the first to break out of her shock.
"You've just been claimed by Poseidon." She said, pointing to Lauren. "And you, by Athena."
Roy grinned. "Cool!" Then he frowned. "Wait, isn't Athena a girl? How can I be both her and my mom's kid?"
Nico coughed. He knew how Athena kids were made of course, and there were plenty of demigods in the Athena cabin who had mortal biological mothers, but he didn't feel like explaining the mechanics of it to Roy. Apparently, neither did Reyna.
"You should meet Annabeth." She said. "She can explain it to you. And then we can see what we can do for you two. Follow me."
"Can I stay with Nico?" Adelfi asked.
"Sure!" Reyna said, "Oh, and Nico, Solace was looking for you earlier."
Nico smiled. "Okay, I'll track him down."
"I better go with them." Hazel said. She hugged Nico and ran after Reyna and the others.
Nico smiled at Adelfi. "Wanna go see Will?" She nodded.
"Carry me."
Nico obliged and started trekking towards the infirmary.
Campers were training for battle outside, fighting practice monsters. The camp had been far from quiet the past two years. There had even been three quests since the prophecy of seven. They never got a rest. Although, Nico admitted, it wasn't all bad. If it hadn't been for the quest for Apollo, he and Will would never have started dating.
"You know, you don't need me to carry you everywhere. You've got your own personal cloud to ride on." Nico said to Adelfi. She just hugged him tighter.
Nico opened the door to the infirmary and stepped inside.
"Will? You in here?"
Will waved at him from across the room. "It's about time!"
"Did you miss me?" Nico asked, walking over and kissing his boyfriend on the cheek.
"Yeah, who else am I supposed to play Myth-o-Magic with?" Will asked. He pulled out a bag of cards and figurines from a drawer. "I updated my deck. I demand a rematch."
"Okay, you know I'll still win."
"Don't be so sure di Angelo."
"Nico will win!" Adelfi said. "Let's play!"
They set up the board while Adelfi watched intently. They had played for a few minutes when Adelfi started to get bored, so Nico gave her his camp necklace to play with. It had three beads, along with his Hades figurine, tied to a leather cord. She studied it carefully, frowning, as if she were trying to remember something. When she handed it back to Nico, she pointed at the figurine.
"I gave this to you."
"Hmm, What?" Nico asked.
"Before."
Nico stared at her. It couldn't be…
"Nico? You Okay?" Will asked.
Nico did the math in his head. Bianca had gone to the Lethe to get reborn in November three years ago, which was…
About nine months before Adelfi was born.
"Bianca?" He asked.
Adelfi smiled. "Oh, was that my name then?"
The end! Thanks to everyone who read this. I maaaay need to write a story about Lauren and Roy now. Maybe. Anyone who got the anime reference in this chapter and can tell me what Adelfi's name means gets to prompt me for a fic! Love you guys!
