The tricky thing,

Is yesterday we were just children,

Playing soldiers, just pretending,

Dreaming dreams with happy endings.

Courtney smiled as she saw the picture of her and Duncan playing together when they were younger. There was another picture that hung over mantelpiece, her, Gwen and Bridgette laughing with their boyfriends.

In backyards,

Winning battles with our wooden swords,

But now we've stepped into a cruel world.

Where everybody stands and,

Keeps score.

And then they'd grown up. They all had their different plans – and they knew they weren't going to see each other much. And still they were determined to make it work. And that was the main problem – it didn't. Gwen and Duncan lived in the same town now – and Courtney knew that he'd been dating Gwen. But still she was able to smile at the pictures of her and Duncan.

Everybody's waiting, for you to breakdown.

Everybody's watching, to see the fallout.

Even when you're sleeping, sleeping,

Keep your e-eyes open.

Keep your e-eyes open.

It was bad at first. She'd been shattered – broken. She had been friends with Gwen, and Duncan had been dating her for practically her whole life. And then everything changed. Her family and friends thought she was slipping away from them – but she just managed to survive.

So here you are,

Two steps ahead, and staying on guard.

Every lesson forms a new scar,

They never thought you'd make it this far.

She was better from it all, and she knew that. She knew that she was doing fine these days. She'd got a good job, and worked well, enjoying what she did. She did miss Duncan, and had her regrets – but she was better. And she made it this far.

But turn around (turn around),

Oh, they've surrounded with a showdown (showdown).

And nobody comes to save you now.

But you got something they don't,

Yeah, you got something they don't.

You just gotta keep your eyes open.

She had made it through. She hadn't kept in contact with any of them. She hadn't dated after him – it never felt right. He wasn't there, and that did hurt. But she had a better life then he probably did, and she was better than him. That's all she needed.

Everybody's waiting, for you to breakdown.

Everybody's watching, to see the fallout.

Even when you're sleeping, sleeping,

Keep your e-eyes open.

She had made it without him. She would always make it without him in the end. She had made it through. She took one last glance at the picture, and took it down. She headed upstairs, and put it in the attic.

She didn't want to see it right now.

A/N – Okay, this was just a quick kind of song one-shot. The song was Eyes Open by Taylor Swift, and…yeah, well that's about it. Please review!
