"Isn't Sasuke turning twenty-one soon?" That caught his attention.
Fugaku turned back to the group following him out of the meeting place.
It was from the elder that was following directly behind him, Hisao Uchiha.
He looked around and saw the other elders had also paused their discussion and focused on the pair.
As much as he hated these monthly meetings with the Uchiha elders, he knew they were an unfortunate custom and tradition. And as head of the clan he must make sure that all Uchiha traditions and customs are upheld no matter what.
"He'll be turning twenty-one next month." He answered and turned back around hoping that would be the end of the conversation.
It wasn't.
"Twenty-one you say?" replied Hisao Uchiha who was now standing to his left.
"Sounds about the same age that you got betrothed does it not?"
So that's it.
"Itachi has stated time and time again that he does not wish to accept the title of head of the clan, so naturally that role falls onto Sasuke does it not" Katsu Uchiha, another one of the elders stated.
"If he is to be head of the clan then his wife must be carefully chosen for him" That came from Juro.
"He is at the most ideal age and there are many potential candidates."
He started walking again hoping to leave the group behind but they relentlessly followed him.
"Of course it would be most ideal to keep the bloodline pure, so we would have to choose a distant relative." He could hear the group discuss behind him.
"Midori Uchiha will be coming of age soon as well, she was just recently prompted to jonin. She would be a good match"
"No, no, no!" He head another argue. "We must pick someone who has mastered the sharingan! How about Noriko Uchiha, she had mastered the sharingan by the time she was fifteen."
He heard the other elders let out some ooh's and ahh's.
The conversation continued throughout their walk through the Uchiha District. Each elder bringing up a different girl who they though would be the most ideal match for Sasuke and for the role of the Uchiha matriarch, with Fugaku drowning most of their conversation out.
When they got close to his manor he stopped and turned to say his goodbyes, ever so grateful to get away from the group when he spotted someone making way towards his house.
"Sakura." He called her over.
She smiled brightly at him once she saw who called her and walked over to the group.
"Fugaku-san" She greeted him with a deep bow. She looked questioningly to the group behind him who had now gone quiet and was observing the pair.
He turned back to the group behind him. "Men, I'd like you to meet Sakura Haruno." He started stepping aside so they could get better look at her.
"She's the Fifth Hokage's apprentice, she was recently promoted to jonin and next year Tsunade fully intends on handing over complete control of the hospital to her."
Sakura ever the respectful one politely bowed and greeted them. They in turn glanced over at him puzzled as to why he would ever take the time to introduce them to this girl.
"Mikoto and I have just recently given her and Sasuke our blessing to be wed." He stated motioning to the rock currently situated on her ring finger.
"We do hope you'll be able to make it to the wedding." And with that he led a slightly red and confused Sakura into the manor leaving a group of flabbergasted elders behind.
