Chapter 7: Face to Face
BPOV
I woke up suddenly and sat up in bed. I rubbed my eyes groggily. I'd been dreaming about Andy and hoping that he was ok. I hadn't been sleeping that deeply to begin with because of my worrying, so I looked outside to see the storm lashing my windows.
I got up and peered out to see a fallen oak in the forest across from my house. The lightning flashed and I saw Jacob's outline on the ground near the tree. My eyes widened in fear for my best friend.
I pulled my window up and yelled outside.
"Jacob! JAKE!" I could see that he couldn't hear me as I yelled. I grabbed my flashlight and ran downstairs, quickly slipping on my sneakers as I ran out the front door. I ran down the stairs, not even looking across the street to see if a car was coming as I crossed. I yelled Jacob's name the entire time, but the storm was too loud. I was soaked through my clothes in a matter of seconds.
I could see Jacob talking to someone in the rain. I tried the flashlight and it flickered on for a second and I saw Jacob look at me. I locked eyes with him for a moment as his companion turned around.
I moved my eyes to look at him and my heart stopped. It felt like everything froze around me as I looked into the bright green eyes of Edward. The flashlight chose this moment to turn on, and I dropped it in surprise. I shook my head and picked it up, shutting it off.
Jacob ran up to me and grabbed my shoulders; shaking me to look at him. His voice was muffled as he spoke, but finally his words registered as I looked at him.
"Bells, go back inside. C'mon."
He began to lead me back into the house with his arm around my shoulder, but I stopped him and turned back to Edward. I waved him toward us.
"C'mon," I yelled. Edward seemed frozen too, but he seemed to understand and followed slowly behind.
As we stepped into the house, I took off my shoes methodically and went up the stairs and got three towels from the bathroom closet. I put one around my shoulders as I went back down to the front hall.
I handed one to Jacob and then to Edward. I didn't want to look at him as I handed it over. Jacob came over and lifted my face. He looked into my eyes and I motioned toward the living room. Jacob understood instinctively. He turned to Edward.
"Can you wait in the living room for a second?" Jacob asked him. Edward nodded and gave me a look before he went in. I took a deep breath and went into the kitchen. I leaned over the counter, my hands clutching it tightly. Jacob came over with his towel and wrapped it around my shoulders. He rubbed it roughly, trying to dry and warm me up at the same time.
I stood there thinking for a moment, before I turned to look at him.
"Did you know he was here?"
"No. I found him only tonight. He was sitting in a truck outside your house in the storm. I thought he was a creep or something, so I pulled him out of the car and I was just as shocked as you were when I realized who it was."
I thought about that for a moment. It was so like Edward to just stand by and watch me like that. He started it so long ago, I guess it was a hard habit to break. I nodded at Jacob and made my way out of the kitchen but Jacob caught my wrist and stopped me. His face was concerned.
"Are you going to go talk to him? Because I don't think that's a good idea," he said honestly.
"I need to Jake. And he's in my house. I can't just leave him sitting out there." Jacob grinned.
"Of course you could." I shook my head and pulled my wrist away. I walked into the living room, every step I took ringing loudly in my ears. When I reached the room, I looked at Edward sitting on the couch.
He looked about the same, a little scruffier, and much more dishevelled than I'd ever seen him look before. He looked so normal now, and it was strange seeing him with green eyes when for the longest time all I dreamt about were his topaz eyes. He was wet and shivering and his cheeks were pink from the cold. He stared at me, just as I stared at him. Finally he broke the silence.
"Bella," he whispered. His voice caught me off-guard because it was different from what I remembered but it still pierced into my very soul. It felt like the scar that had once been a hole in my chest, never existed. I took a deep breath so that when I spoke my voice wouldn't quiver.
"Jake told me what you were doing outside in your truck. This was really stupid Edward." He blinked a couple of times before he spoke.
"I know, Alice told me not to come but-"I cut across him.
"Wait, Alice knew you were here?" Edward shut his lips but nodded deftly. I sighed and nodded.
"That's just great. But anyway you were saying?"
"Well...Alice said not to come because you'd rebuilt your life and I had no right to try and be a part of it again, but I just had to see you one more time," he finished. I rolled my eyes and put my hands on my hips, making myself totally aware of my state of dress. I was only in a t-shirt and Andy's boxer shorts. I pulled my towel tighter around me, hoping that Edward didn't notice.
"Well she was right. I have built a life for myself. I'm about to start a new one as someone's wife, so I really don't need you coming into my town and 'checking' up on me. I didn't need you to back then, so I don't need you to now. But God, you are so lucky my dad isn't home or he probably would have shot you on sight. Maybe back in your vampire days you wouldn't have to worry, but as a mortal, you should." Edward stood up and the towel fell off of him. I could see the shape of his arms where his jacket clung to him. His physique hadn't changed, except that now he looked manlier and less like a teenage boy.
I closed my mind to the warmth that tingled through me as I saw that. I was no stranger to muscles, I'd dated Jake for goodness sake. Plus Andy had more than enough to please me, but something about Edward just sparked something in me.
"I should probably go then. I'm so sorry for bothering you like this Bella." I went over and stood in front of him.
"Are you crazy? It's ridiculous out there, I can't let you drive, especially now that you aren't indestructible. You'll just have to stay the night," I said.
"What?" Jacob asked in shock. He had been standing in the doorway listening. He grabbed my arm and pulled me into the hall.
"Are you out of your head? He can't stay over. What if your dad comes home and finds him sleeping here? He'll kill him, and I know you want your dad at your wedding. Or what if Andy finds him, how is that going to look?"
"Don't you trust me Jake?"
"Of course I do, but I don't trust him. I'm your best friend I'm supposed to look out for you."
"I know, but we can't let him drive. He'd just kill himself and then I'd have his death on my conscience." Jacob stayed quiet for a moment before he sighed.
"Alright fine, but I'm going to stay over too, just to keep an eye out. I'll leave when daylight hits, but he'll have to leave too. Alright?" I nodded.
"Sure sure." He frowned.
"Hey don't be using my words on me," he said. I laughed and went into the living room. Edward looked up.
"Jake said you could stay, but he'll be staying too and he said as soon as daylight hits you have to go. Alright?" Edward nodded.
"Thank you Bella and Jacob," he said. I nodded.
"You're welcome. Goodnight." I turned to Jake and hugged him fiercely before I kissed his cheek.
"Night Wolfie," I joked. He gnashed his teeth at me and I squealed and ran upstairs playfully.
"Goodnight." I heard him call up after me as I shut my door and got into a warm pair of pyjamas before going to bed.

I watched this exchange in surprise. So Bella and Jacob were still close. They seemed closer than I remember them being. They'd probably become that way after I left. I wondered if anything had ever happened between them. It seemed possible with the way Bella had hugged him and had teased him. I sighed as I realized I could never even have that with her now.
Jake turned to look at me as I towel dried my hair and sat down in the couch. I took off my rain coat and put it on the floor so that it wouldn't soak the couch. I felt very awkward as I sat there with Jacob near me. He seemed to just sit in the armchair making sure I didn't try anything, so I decided to talk to him.
"So you and Bella seem close."
"We are," he answered shortly.
"You know there isn't anything you have to worry about Jacob. I'm not going to try anything." Jacob gave me a skeptical look.
"Of course I shouldn't worry. That's why you were lurking around outside her house like a stalker right?"
"I already told you that-" he cut me off.
"Yeah that you just wanted to see her. But that sounds like bullshit to me. You don't go see a girl that you were in love with unless you're planning to get her back and that's what it looked like to me." I couldn't deny the logic behind that. I decided to deflect his comments.
"I can tell that you and Bella have become great friends in the time that I was gone." Jacob glared at me.
"Of course we did. You were gone and she needed someone. She was so messed up for the longest time. I never thought she'd ever be herself again. I thought maybe you'd done something to her physically too. But she would never talk about it. She just wouldn't and then the day she found your stuff under her floor. . . she just cracked." I jumped when I heard that.
"She found that?" I asked. Jacob nodded.
"She burned it all in the trash can outside. It was really scary; she was like a woman possessed. And then that night, we talked and I finally understood." Jacob gave me a dark look and I felt the guilt and shame wash over me.
"You don't understand. I did it to protect her. I, being what I was . . . and she loving me, it wasn't right. I thought I'd hurt her, so I left to give her a chance at a normal life." I saw Jacob's face look thoughtful.
"Well I do agree with you about it not being right, but I never knew you left to protect her. Does she know that?" I shook my head.
"Wow. Well it still doesn't condone what you did. I mean you left her in the woods," he said. I frowned.
"I never left her in the woods. We walked into the edge of the forest near her house and I ended it. I left but her house was right behind us."
"Well we had to go on a rescue mission to find her. She was missing for six hours. And she was found deep in the forest," Jacob replied. I thought about that, she must have followed me after I left.
"Well I'm sorry for that. I'm just glad that she was able to find someone, after how you described how hurt she was."
"Well I guess I get some of that credit since we were together for a while before she met Andy. I kind of healed her enough for her to be able to love. I mean things changed for us when Leah got involved. . . but we're still best friends."
I listened, taking in everything Jacob said. I wanted to know more but I didn't know how much more he'd tell me. He was laying back in his armchair with his eyes closed, maybe in his drowsiness he'd tell me.
"So what's the story between Bella and her fiancé?" Jacob shifted a little and sighed.
"They met at Yale first year and dated all through school. They got engaged last December but only planned on getting married after they graduated, so they came back here to do it after they graduated in May." He yawned largely and covered his mouth. I didn't say anything as I let this marinate. My Bella had made it to Yale. How wonderful, but at the same time she'd done what I'd asked. I couldn't be angry over the fact that she'd done what I had wanted.
"He seems to love Bella," I said sulkily.
"He does. A lot. And I totally approve of him. He'll be able to give Bella anything and everything she wants. He's loaded."
"I didn't think Bella was the type to be interested in that sort of thing." Jacob's eyes flashed open.
"Of course not. She likes who he is. He's a great guy and he treats her right. She didn't even know how much he was worth until after they had been dating for a year. And I would never let her go out with him if I thought he was a jerk. And the fact that he's ok with me and Bella being as close as we are, with our history, makes him that much more amazing."
"Well I guess he's good enough for Bella then." Jacob looked at me for a moment before he closed his eyes again. I kept quiet as I lay in Bella's house, thinking about her and her relationship.
Jacob's snores broke into my thoughts as I lay there. She was my one and only and I wanted her to be happy, even if it ripped my heart out in the process.
BPOV
The sunlight glistened through my window as I rolled over in bed. I opened my eyes, thinking that last night had been a dream as I sat up. Edward could not have been here, sleeping in my house, in my living room. I got up and went into the bathroom, where I brushed my teeth and washed my face. I ran wet fingers through my hair to get it under control and then went downstairs.
I peeked into the living room, which was empty. I sighed in relief and went into the kitchen. As I started to make some coffee, I noticed a small sheet of paper on the counter. I stared at it for a moment and then I picked it up. It was a note.
'Bella, thank you for letting me stay the night. I'm sorry that I inconvenienced you this way. I didn't mean to, I only wanted to see you one last time before I continued my life. You were the one thing in my life that had any importance, any meaning. I'm sorry for how I hurt you before, I didn't intend for you to be in so much pain. That I affected your life that much hurts me. I promise that I won't bother you again. Goodbye, Edward.'
I looked at the paper for a moment before I crumpled it up. So it had been true, not just a dream. I went and tossed the paper into the garbage before I went back to what I was doing. But a part of me just didn't feel like doing anything, so I went back upstairs and climbed into bed. I buried my head into my pillow and before I knew it I felt a light kiss on my temple.
I moved and rolled over to see Andy leaning over me. He smiled down at me as he sat up.
"Sorry Bells, I didn't want to wake you," he whispered as he sat down on the edge of my bed. I shook my head at him as I took his hand.
"You didn't. I wasn't completely asleep. When did you get home?"
"Only a few minutes ago, Sebastian and I slept in a little." I smiled up at him as his thumb stroked my palm.
"I missed you last night," I whispered. He reached over a stoked my face lightly.
"Were you all alone? Where was your dad?"
"The storm caused some chaos in the city and he was helping most of the night. I went to bed without him here. But I wasn't alone though. . . Jake came and kept me company," I answered. Andy lifted an eyebrow playfully and I hit him on the shoulder.
"Am I going to have to beat up Jacob now?" I rolled my eyes.
"No. He stayed in the living room and he only stayed over because he got stranded in the storm around the time you called me, so he took refuge here," I said. Andy laughed and leaned down to kiss my forehead lightly before he stood up and made his way to my door.
"Well it's almost lunch time so how about I get some food ready?" Andy asked as he held the doorknob and turned to look at me. I quirked an eyebrow at him and sat up in bed.
"No, I'll go make something. I don't know if I trust you cooking in my house," I said as I hopped out of bed. He gave me a look over, his eyes skimming over me. I could feel heat touch everywhere he looked. I was wearing a simple bra like top and shorts. They were black with some graphic designs on the sides of both the top and bottom. It did reveal a lot of my stomach but I hadn't thought of that when I'd slipped it on in the darkness last night.
I caught the storm of passion cooking in his eyes as he looked at me and came back up to my face. I backed up a little as he took a step forward.
"Bells I didn't know that's what you were wearing or I wouldn't have let you get up." I rolled my eyes at him as he took another step toward me. I moved and fell backwards onto my bed; Andy immediately pounced and kissed me.
I could feel Andy's hands on my hips as he moved on top of me, sliding between my legs. I moaned as he ground his waist in between my legs. I could feel him getting hard against me, as he slid my legs wider so he could get comfortable there. I instinctively wrapped myself around his waist as his hand slipped into my top. His tongue slid into my mouth at the same time as his hand did in my top and I moaned quietly as he tenderly teased one of my nipples between his fingertips.
I arched my back underneath him, and he let go of my lips to kiss his way down my neck. I felt his other hand moving down my side to my shorts. He slid his finger under the waistband and began to slide his finger back and forth across it.
He began to pull them down with just one hand. Even though I was wrapped around him tightly enough that he couldn't get them off, he still slid them down. He pulled back and I unravelled my legs from his waist. I quickly removed my top as he took off his plaid shirt and jeans. His boxers came off just as quickly, but he stopped me from removing my shorts.
He lifted my arms up above my head and kissed his way down my body. His lips brushed lightly over each of my nipples and I shivered as his lips moved down until his tongue was at my belly button.
He slipped his tongue in lightly, delving and sliding on the skin. It tickled but sent hot pulses through me as I thought about how he would do that elsewhere. I moaned lightly and arched my back as he slid both hands into my shorts and peeled them off very slowly. I watched him, my nether regions pulsing in need.
Andy looked up at me and kissed my belly button.
"Remember where I kissed you because you're going to feel me there very soon," he whispered and I almost cried out in anticipation.
He slid up my body and pressed me into my bed. I could feel him against my thigh as he kissed me and slid his tongue into my mouth. I gripped his back as he adjusted himself and slid into me firmly.
I cried out at the first contact I had of him, but his mouth stifled it. My moan intermingled with his as we kissed. I arched my back against him as he pressed into me deeply. My eyes rolled in pleasure as I realized he was so deep inside me that I could feel him at my belly button. He had not been kidding when he said I'd feel him there.
He pulled back and started kissing my neck as he thrust into me maddeningly slowly. I could feel every inch of him as he thrust. I wrapped my legs around him again as he began to pick up speed. I pressed my nails into his back as pleasure ran its way from between my legs and throughout my whole body.
I was panting as my muscles began to tighten pleasurably. Andy was pounding into me fast now, my body just taking him as deeply as I could. I moaned again and he groaned into my ear as he sat up a little and looked me in the eye. He pressed his forehead to mine so he could look into my eyes as he pressed into me.
One of his hands moved down between us and he pressed my clit. That set me off. My eyes shut and he caught me in a kiss as I flew into my orgasm. My body arched hard against him and I felt him stiffen against me as he hit his as well.
I held onto him until the wonderful feelings faded away. Andy let go of my lips and rolled over taking me with him. He was still inside me and I was still wrapped around him.
He lay his head on my pillow and stroked my face.
"I love you Bella. You're just perfect, I'll never get tired of making love to you," he whispered to me.
"I love you too Andy. You just make me so happy." He smiled at me and kissed me again. I shifted and we unravelled ourselves from each other. I lay my head on his chest and listened to his heart beat as he held me against him.
Not even a minute later, a knock came on my door. I looked at it and then glanced at Andy. One of my dad's rules for Andy staying here was no sex, but we'd been breaking it ever since he'd gotten here. I did not want to be caught red handed.
"Who is it?" I asked as I hopped out of bed and grabbed my pyjamas and pulled them on. Andy just lay there with a smirk on his face. I stared at him. My face was saying, "get up", while his was saying "you deal with this".
"Bells, are you up?" My dad's voice came from outside.
"Ya dad, but I'm getting dressed."
"Oh alright I just wanted to see if you were up. I'm gonna get lunch started."
"Ok I'll be down in a sec." I heard my dad's footsteps as they went down the stairs and I went over and hit Andy's shoulder.
"Thanks for all your help asshole," I said as he grinned at me. He sat up and pulled me onto his lap. I struggled playfully against him as he pressed his face into my hair.
"Stop being cute so I can be mad at you," I said. He moved my hair slightly and kissed me again on the neck. I pushed his bare chest and stood up. I went over to my closet and pulled out a white halter sun dress and laid it on the bed.
Then I grabbed my towel and toiletries bag and gave Andy a withering look.
"I'm going take a quick shower and then go get lunch started. I suggest you get your ass out of my bed and go get dressed too."
"Well I'm dirty now so I think I should take a shower too." He pulled back the covers and stood up naked. I laughed at him and shook my head.
"No, if you want a shower, take one by yourself later. Now I want you out my bed by the time I come back."
"I'm hurt. First you use me for sex, and then kick me out," he said. I laughed and went to take my shower. I didn't take more than ten minutes even though I washed my hair.
When I did go back to my room, it was empty. I quickly got into my dress and made my way downstairs, clipping my hair up as I did. I gave Andy a quick kiss on the cheek, and my dad a smile and started getting lunch ready.
As I did that, my dad updated us on what had happened the night before. A tree had fallen across two houses and a set of telephone lines. The electricity coupled with the rain caused a couple of cars on the streets to catch on fire. All of this had all the police and firefighters of Forks working through the night to get the fires out and to dig out two people in the rubble of one of the houses.
"Was everyone ok?"
"Yes, we had a few injuries but other than that, everyone came out of it unscathed."
I felt relief as I heard that. It was rare for things like that to happen in Forks but when they did, it was always a huge ordeal. It made me worry about my dad, but he loved what he did so I would have to live with it.
When I finished, I got up and washed my plate before I grabbed my car keys off the counter. Both of them looked at me.
"Where to Bells?" My dad asked.
"I want to go see Alice. I need to talk to her."
"Alright, you have fun," my dad said as he stood up. He kissed my cheek as he grabbed his gun belt and left. Andy stood up and cleaned his plate as well.
"So what do you need to talk to Alice about? Can't you just call her on the phone?" I thought about that. I could but I felt like this needed to be in person, but maybe I would call her first. Port Angeles was a far way away and it would save me time and gas.
"Alright, I'll go call her."
"And I'm going to make some coffee for Seb. He's wickedly hungover." I laughed.
"Serves him right. I'm going to go to the front porch." I put down my car keys and got my cell. I went out to the porch and looked around before I dialled Alice's cell phone.
As it rung, I noticed that the black truck that had been parked across the street was now gone. I only had a moment to think about that as Alice answered.
"Hey Bells. So what do I owe this great call?" She said jokingly into the phone. I smiled and made sure to shut the front door behind me before I spoke. I went down the front steps and walked slowly to the mail box at the end of the drive.
"Alice I need to ask you something and I need you to be completely honest with me." I opened the mail box and pulled out the mail. I nestled the phone in the crook of my neck as I looked at each piece of mail.
"Of course Bella. What is it?"
"Did you know that Edward was in town?"
There was silence on the phone as I waited for my answer. I had been expecting this.
"Alice I know he's here, I saw him." I heard a deep sigh.
"I'm sorry Bella. I never wanted Edward to interact with you at all. I told him to leave the day he arrived in Port Angeles. I feel so bad that you saw him. I'm going to kill him, he never took that flight that we booked for him. Damn him," Alice said.
"It's ok Alice. You can't control someone." I began to make my way back to the house.
"When did you see him Bella?"
"Last night. . .in town. I confronted him this time. We spoke and I told him to leave and he said he would."
I didn't want Alice to know what had really happened. I wanted that to just be a secret. I'd have to give Jake a heads up when I saw him next.
"That dumbass. Are you ok?"
"Yeah I am. It just caught me off-guard that's all."
"I hope you aren't mad at me Bells."
"No way, I just wanted to know that's all. I know you were just trying to protect me and I totally love you for that." I heard my phone beeping as another call came in. I glanced at it and realized it was Bianca.
"Hey Ali, Bianca's calling so I'll talk to you later."
"Alright bye Bells." I quickly switched my calls and answered Bianca.
"Oh Bella, so I wanted to let you know that I got an appointment for you at Kleinfeld's. It's on Saturday at 1, so we'll need to get a flight out on Thursday. Do you want me to book that?" She asked.
"Yes, get six tickets. All the girls are coming and I'll let my mom know the date as well so that she can come too. Can you book us a hotel room as well?"
"Of course. Well I'll let you get back to your day. Oh as a heads up, I've already booked the band. They'll be playing the wedding march as well as the reception. Now I don't know if you want me to find a location, but I can if you say the word Bella."
"Yes, I think that would be good. It's not going to be that large of a group but it will be too large for my house."
"Ok I got it. I'll need to talk to you on Wednesday about a few things."
"Sounds good I'll see you then."I said as I went into the house.
"Bye." I said bye and then hung up. I slammed the door shut and heard a groan from the kitchen. I went in to see a puffy eyed pale Sebastian. I smiled at him and he growled.
"Did you have to slam the door so hard?" He asked as he clutched his coffee like his life depended on it. I just smiled.
"Serves you right, anyway do you want anything to eat?" He shook his head.
"No way, coffee is fine." I grinned at him again and went upstairs to see what Andy was up to. When I got up there, he came out of the bathroom holding my little blue box. I snatched it from him.
"You left your birth control pills in the bathroom. You don't want your dad to see those do you?" I cradled the box to my chest.
"No. I must have forgotten them when I took one after my shower. Thanks." I took them to my room and put them away before I went over and wrapped myself up in his arms.

I went downstairs to get some lunch, when I heard Bella's name. I turned to see a pretty woman with brown hair, on her cell phone. I recognized her as one of the women who had come out of Bella's house the day before.
I tried to avoid her gaze as she turned around. I saw her eyes run over me and I quickly made my way into the sitting room and grabbed a paper.
I heard someone sit beside me and I forced myself to ignore them. I was all too sure that it was that woman. But sooner than I expected the woman began to speak.
"Excuse me could I trouble you for the business section?" I folded down a side of my paper and separated the ones on my lap and handed her the business section.
"Thanks. Are you staying here also?" I nodded.
"Don't talk much do you?"
"Not really, I just want to read my paper before lunch."
"Oh, well. . .how about we get out of here and get some lunch together? I'm Bianca by the way."
She held out her hand out for me to shake. I sighed and reached out. I shook it as well, knowing that this meeting would probably blow up in my face.
"I'm. . .Tony," I said. I didn't want her to know my full name lest she tell Bella, so I used my middle name shortened.
"Hi Tony, so what brings you to Forks?" I thought about that for a second.
"Properties. What about you?" I knew that was a bad answer but I needed to say something.
"Work, I'm planning a wedding."
"That's nice, how's that going?"
"Very well actually. I'm really glad for the bride and groom, I think they're going to be really happy together," she said with a far away look on her face. I didn't like the sound of that, but I just had to deal with it at the moment. She turned to me fully and smiled.
"Well anyway, how about lunch?" I stared at her.
"I don't think that would be a good idea," I answered. Her face fell for a moment.
"Why?"
"Because I've kind of sworn off women." She laughed.
"C'mon it's just lunch, what are you afraid of?" I could just tell that she wouldn't give up, and it made me sigh.
"Alright then." She nodded and stood up. I followed suite and walked out with her. I didn't feel like going very far, so we walked to the local diner.
When we got there, I sat down and looked around nervously. I hadn't expected to end up here with this woman but now that I was here, I tried to make the best of it. I looked at her and noticed the green piercing eyes and the light to dark shades of her hair. She was an attractive woman, but she wasn't the right woman for me. And I could tell by the glint in her eyes that she wanted to see if I was the guy for her.
"So, you said that you came to Forks to look at properties. Are you a real estate agent or do you want to move up here with your family?" she asked.
I could hear the subtle message in her question as soon as she asked it.
"No I'm just looking at some properties to purchase. That's it." I answered. I could see the frustration on her face from my answer. She'd wanted it to be more telling. Oh how lucky I was to have been able to read minds.
"Well I used to live in town so I thought I'd buy a place to come and visit on off days." She smiled. She liked this answer.
"How nice. So I'm guessing your job isn't that demanding then?"
"Well I'll hopefully get into med school and begin my training as a doctor." She grinned even larger.
"That's great. I never had the brain for something that knowledge based, so I commend you," she said.
"Well you never know how you'll do until you try it."
At this point, the waitress came over and handed us menus. This was strange looking at the menu because usually I chose nothing on it. There were so many choices, so I decided that I'd have to control myself in front of Bianca. We ordered and chatted as we ate.
I didn't realize that I liked talking to someone who was out of the circle of people who knew what I had been. I liked that to her I was just a normal guy.
"So Tony tell me about yourself."
"Well I'm 23 years old. I don't really know what else I can tell you."
"Well did you go to school, siblings, interests, girlfriend..?" I could tell what she was trying to pull out of me but I wasn't going to bite.
"I have 4 adoptive siblings, I went to school to study medicine like my adoptive father, and I hope to go to medical school so as to study to become a doctor. I'm really interested in music. I play the piano and I just love listening to different types of music. I really enjoy books as well, I love falling into them and becoming a part of the story. But that generally is what I like. I'm very busy most of the time, this is some of the only free time I get," I said.
"Wow. To have such a large family and then to want to be a doctor, your parents must be proud."
"Well they've always been very open to the idea of me doing anything that made me happy, so they've always just been very supportive." As I spoke, I could see Bianca just staring at me, with a slight glint in her eye. I tried to keep the attention off of me as our food arrived and I got her talking about herself.
When we were finally finished, I stood up. Bianca stood up as well, sadness falling onto her features.
"I really must be going, but hopefully everything going on with the wedding you are planning goes well. Goodbye." And before she could say anything, I turned and left the hotel. When I was out, I took a deep calming breath. I just hoped that I would be able to avoid her from now on.
Since I needed to find something to do, I decided to get into my car and as I did, I realized a place I could go. . . the meadow.
