A few weeks later Brendan finally defeated the Elite Four and the Champion.
"I knew you were strong but not this strong" said Steven
"I have been training extra hard thinking I would have to go up against Lucas" said Brendan
"Where is he" he asked looking around
"He went home after defeating me in a Mega Evolution battle" said Steven
"Now come with me new Champion" he said
But before they could leave May ran in shouting "Wait a minute Brendan"
"I wanted to give you some advice before you battled the Champion" she said
"You are a little late" said Brendan
"Let us go Champion" said Steven
"Champion" exclaimed May
"I told you there was nothing to worry about" said Birch walking up to them
Latias went to follow Brendan only for Steven to stop her.
"Only champions are allowed beyond this point" said Steven
Latias huffed at that and turned away as Steven led Brendan into a large room with a fancy terminal at the other end.
"Place your pokeballs on the terminal to register you and your Pokémon into the Hall of Fame" said Steven
Brendan put his pokeballs on the terminal and one by one pictures of his Pokémon appeared on the monitor. Once they were done registering, Brendan picked up his pokeballs before Steven led him out of the Hall of Fame.
Brendan and Latias left the Pokémon League and Brendan got his Pokémon healed at the Pokémon Center before Latias flew him home.
The next morning Brendan and Latias went down stairs and he saw his dad was home.
"Dad, you're home" exclaimed Brendan
"I am taking a short vacation to take your mother out" said Norman
"We are going to the see the meteor shower at the space center" said him mother excitedly
The phone then rang that Norman answered.
"Norman"
"WHAT" he yelled
"I will be right there" he said
He then hung up the phone.
"I need to go back to the gym" said Norman
"Something spooked the Pokémon causing them to rampage and destroy most of the gym" he explained
"They were able to contain them, but they are going to need help calming down and healing the Pokémon and rebuilding" he finished
"I understand" said his mother sadly
"I'm sorry" said Norman giving her a hug and a kiss
He then ran out of the house.
"Why don't you take Lacy to see the meteor shower Brendan" said his mother
"We shouldn't let the tickets go to waste" she said holding out the tickets
"Ok" said Brendan taking them
He looked at the tickets and saw they had sometime before the show started.
"Since we have some time before it starts, we are going to help dad" said Brendan
"Ok" said his mother
"Be safe" she said
"We will" said Brendan
They left the house only to see a girl with a Whismur waiting outside for them. She had black hair and was wearing a ragged cloak over a black shirt and short tan shorts.
"I wanted to meet you for a long time" said the girl
"Who are you" asked Brendan
"My name is Zinnia"
"I have been watching you for a long time and know everything about you" she said
"I know that you defeated Team Aqua and just became the new Pokémon League Champion" she said
"I want to do it so badly" she exclaimed
"But I am going to hold back since this is our first meeting" she said
"We will meet again" she said
She then left with her Whismur.
"That was weird" said Brendan
"Let's go" he said
Latias nodded her head and changed into her Pokémon form. Brendan got onto her back and she took off for Petalburg City. When they landed there, Brendan got off her back and she changed back.
As they were walking towards the gym they heard shouting coming from Wally's house. They ran to it and saw Wally being confronted by Matt.
"Give me your Key Stone" said Matt
"I won't give it to you since I can't" said Wally
"Give it to me" growled Matt taking a step forward
"Leave him alone" shouted Brendan
Matt turned around and saw Brendan and Latias standing there.
"You again" growled Matt
"I will defeat you this time and take your Key Stone" he said
"Go Sharpedo" he shouted throwing a pokeball
"Go Manectric" shouted Brendan throwing a pokeball
"Manectric, Thunderbolt" he commanded
Manectric charged up a lot of electricity and shot it at Sharpedo knocking it out.
"Return Sharpedo" said Matt
"Why do you always have to mess with our plans" he shouted running away
Once he was gone Brendan returned Manectric to his pokeball.
"Are you ok Wally" asked Brendan
"Yes" said Wally nodding his head
"Thank you" he said
"Where is your Key Stone" asked Latias not seeing it on Wally
"I don't know" said Wally looking down
"WHAT" yelled Brendan and Latias
"How could you lose it" exclaimed Latias
"I didn't lose it" shouted Wally
"I took it off to change my clothes when my mom called me down for breakfast" he explained
"When I went back up to my room after breakfast it was gone" he continued
"I looked everywhere in the house for it and couldn't find it" he continued
"I want to go out to look for it, but I need to stay here in case that big guy comes back" he finished
"We will keep an eye out for it" said Brendan
"Thank you" said Wally
He then went into his house. After he went inside both Brendan and Latias started hearing a ringing noise like a phone ringing.
"Do you hear a phone ringing" asked Brendan
"I do" said Latias
She looked around until she noticed it coming from Brendan's bag.
"I think it is coming from your bag" said Latias
"It is" said Brendan confused
Latias opened Brendan's bag and stuck her hand inside. She took out his PokeNav Plus.
"It's coming from your PokeNav" said Latias holding it out
"How is it doing that" asked Brendan taking it
He tapped it and a voice came out of it.
"Hello Brendan" said Steven
"Steven" exclaimed Brendan
"How are you talking to me" he asked
"I bet you are wondering how I am talking to you" said Steven
"This is a communication program that we are beta testing" he explained
"We installed it on every PokeNav in case of emergencies like this" he finished
"I need you to come to Devon Corp as soon as possible to talk" he said
"I don't think we were actually talking to him" said Latias
"I think you were right" said Brendan putting away his PokeNav Plus
"Let's go" he said
Latias nodded her head and changed into her Pokémon form. Brendan got onto her back and she took off towards Rustboro City. After they landed Brendan got off her and she changed back. They then ran towards Devon Corp. When they arrived, they saw Steven waiting outside Devon Corp for them.
"Ah good, you're here" said Steven seeing them
"Follow me" he said turning around
He then went into Devon Corp with Brendan and Latias following behind him. He took them up to his father's office.
"Ah good, you brought them here" said Mr. Stone seeing them
He first tried to inject some humor into the situation only for Steven to yell at him for it. He then gave a short history lesson of Devon Corp. It started with his ancestor being inspired by what was used to end the ancient Kalos War. That led to the discovery of Infinity Energy. That led to Devon Corp to become the company they are today.
"Now that the history lesson is over, let me explain why I called you here" said Mr. Stone
"A large meteoroid is on a collision course with Hoenn" he explained
"WHAT" yelled Brendan and Latias
"We are working with the Space Center on a plan to destroy it" said Mr. Stone
"But we need a Meteorite Shard to help power it" he said
"You want us to go get it" said Brendan
"Yes" said Mr. Stone nodding his head
"Steven, I want you to take that Link Cable I gave you to the Space Center" he said
"Ok" said Steven
"Brendan, go to that chamber with the mural in Granite Cave to find a Meteorite Shard" he said
"Ok" said Brendan
Brendan and Latias ran out of Devon Corp where Latias took them to Granite Cave. They ran into the chamber where the mural was and saw that Zinnia was standing before it.
"They did a good job on this but left out the most important part" said Zinnia
She then turned around and saw Brendan and Latias standing there.
"I knew you would come here" said Zinnia
"You have come to claim the power of the Meteorite Shards" she said
"Yes" said Brendan nodding his head
"I just can't hold it in anymore" said Zinnia
"I absolutely adore you" she exclaimed
"WHAT" yelled Brendan
Latias started growling at that.
"I have to battle you" said Zinnia
"Go Tyrantrum" she shouted throwing a pokeball
"Go Pelipper" shouted Brendan throwing a pokeball
"Pelipper, Surf" he commanded
Pelipper flew up and rode a wave of water at Tyrantrum knocking it out.
"Return Tyrantrum" said Zinnia
"Go Altaria" she shouted throwing a pokeball
"Pelipper, Ice Beam" commanded Brendan
Pelipper shot a beam of ice at Altaria knocking it out.
"Return Altaria" said Zinnia
"Go Salamence" she shouted throwing a pokeball
"Pelipper, Ice Beam" commanded Brendan
Pelipper shot a beam of ice at Salamence knocking it out.
"Return Salamence" said Zinnia
"You are just as strong as I thought" she said
"Go ahead and take a Meteorite Shard as a reward" she said
"Your Whismur is not going to battle" asked Brendan
"Aster does not battle" said Zinnia shaking her head
"Ok" said Brendan
"Return Pelipper" he said
Zinnia started to walk away. But when she came beside Brendan and Latias her demeanor changed and became serious.
"The path you walk now" said Zinnia
"Is it because of the ideals you cling to or the truths you know" she asked
"How much of those truths and ideals do you really know about" she asked
She then left the chamber.
"I wonder if she was knowingly referencing Zekrom and Reshiram with that" asked Latias
"Who are they" asked Brendan
"The Legendary Pokémon of Unova" said Latias
"One represents Ideals and the other Truths" she said
Brendan nodded his head as he picked up a Meteorite Shard off the ground and put it in his bag. His PokeNav Plus then started ringing. He took it out and tapped the screen.
"I sure you got a Meteorite Shard by now" said Steven
"Come to the Space Center as soon as possible" he said
"We don't have as much time as we thought" he said
Brendan quickly put away his PokeNav Plus and they both ran out of Granite Cave.
"Let's use Mega Evolution" said Latias
"Ok" said Brendan nodding his head
"I will tell everyone that it wasn't safe for you to carry both of us going that fast" he said
"Sounds good" said Latias
"I will surround us with a psychic barrier to protect us" she said
She then changed into her Pokémon form. Brendan tapped his keystone and Latias was surrounded in a cocoon of power that when burst revealed Mega Latias. Brendan got onto Mega Latias back and she surrounded them in a psychic barrier. She then blasted off towards Mossdeep City.
