"It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift!" A light blue she-cat sang, waving her paws in the air. Bluestar twirled around a clearing somewhere in Starclan, joyously murdering Mudclaw's ears.
"Oh, not that song again!" Mudclaw complained.
A dappled gray tom flounced out into the clearing, "The baffled king composing Hallelujah!"
Mudclaw hissed and covered his ears, "Oh Ashfur, not you too! I thought we were on the same side!"
Ashfur stopped singing and looked at Mudclaw, "Hey, I just tried to murder my ex-girlfriend and her adopted children, you betrayed your clan. That is waaaaaay worse."
Bluestar and Ashfur continued in harmony.
"Hallelujah, Ha-llelujah, Haaa-lle-luuuuu-o-u-o-uujah."
"NOOOOOO!" Mudclaw wailed. He sprinted from the clearing, "I'm going to find another tree to fall on me!"
Blustar cackled, "Alright Ashfur, who's next?"
Ashfur pulled out a long piece of paper from behind his back. He checked off the name Mudclaw with a hot pink gel pen before moving on to the next name. "Well, it seems that Tallstar isn't too fond of 'Africa'."
The blue-grey she-cat smirked, "And where exactly is Tallstar?"
Tallstar smiled sleepily and rolled over on the grass. "Another great day of hunting, wouldn't you say so Jake?"
The ginger, former kittypet, nodded, "I didn't know they made mice that big."
After laying around in peace for a while, the black and white tom rose. "Well, Feathertail said she wanted to talk to me about something, so I better get over to the river. Do want to come along?"
Jake shook his head, "Nah, I'm gonna go visit Firestar. Say, did you know I have great-grandkits?"
Tallstar was about to respond when something stopped him. He heard a rumble in the distance. It almost sounded like… Voices?
Two blurry shapes shot over the crest of a far-off hill. Their voices rang out clearly over the plains.
"I BLESS THE RAINS DOWN IN AFRICA!"
Tallstar gasped, "No, Clans Below, please no…"
"GONNA TAKE SOME TIME TO DO THE THINGS WE NEVER HAD!"
"Run Jake, to the river!"
The two toms raced away from the oncoming noise, their paws aching by the time they reached the riverbank.
Feathertail was there waiting for them. "Thanks for coming Tallstar! Oh, and you brought Jake!"
"Feathertail, you need to- you need to run!"
The silver cat tilted her head, "Why?"
A faint sound of music echoed from the hills.
"Oh," Feathertail cried, "Is that Africa? I love that song!"
Tallstar screeched and dove into the river, and Jake followed after him, saying, "I don't why I'm doing this!"
Feathertail watched two spots on the horizon get closer and closer until she was standing nose to nose with Bluestar and Ashfur.
"Hey there Feathertail, have you seen Tallstar around here?"
Feathertail gave an exaggerated glance in each direction before pointing to the right, "They went that way."
Bluestar's claws raked the sandy shore, "Dang' it, we almost had him too!" She sighed and turned to Ashfur, "Well come on, let's find whoever is next."
The pair trotted off into the nearby woods, consulting a long piece of paper held in Ashfur's hands.
A small white paw reached up from underneath the surface of the water, and Feathertail slapped it heartily. "Any time Tallstar!"
Longtail led a parade of kittens down a thin trail in the forest, each side walled with lilacs and daisies. The kittens prattled on nonsensically about cool looking butterflies they had seen, or how one pelt color looked prettier than the other. The older tom smiled, this was what living in Starclan was all about, everlasting peace, continual newleaf, and constant happiness.
He blinked and took in a single yellow flower, balancing precariously in a sunbeam. He loved being able to see again.
Suddenly, his ears perked up, what was that sound?
He shushed the kittens behind him and listened again. Yes, there was definitely some sort of music playing.
Blue and grey, that was all Longtail saw as he was tackled to the ground.
"JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL!"
"LIVING IN A LONELY WOOOOOOOORLD!"
"RUN CHILDREN! RUN!"
"SHE TOOK THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN GOING AAANYWHEEEEEEEEERE!"
Ashfur got off of Longtail and pulled out a red guitar. He began plucking at the strings and bobbing his head, "JUST A CITY BOY!"
"BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTH DETROIT!"
The two singing cats leaned on each other, back-to-back, "TOOK THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN GOING AAANYWHEEEEERE!"
"SOMEBODY PLEASE RIP OFF MY EARS!"
