A/N : Just a snippet from an AU i had where a teen aged Emma gets taken in by foster mom Regina. Kinda cheesy but it was fun and I'm probably never gonna finish that so here you go.

It's definitely not an appropriate time to be having flashbacks, what with the darkness trying to consume her soul after she pushed Regina and everything but logic doesn't matter when a dark tornado of doom is trying to snuff out your light.

Or maybe it was that aforementioned tornado of doom that was causing these thoughts. Who really knew?

Anyway.

When she was twelve there was a girl whose name she can't quite recall. An almost friend who used to lend her books.

The books weren't particularly good, but they were a welcome distraction from a foster home that was most definitely not good.

In the books, the main characters were cheese ball as shit. Beautiful women with amazing powers that were chosen to save the world with two hot guys fighting for their affections.

Ugh. Cheese ball.

But to a twelve year old Emma Swan, they were heroes. People who defied their tragic sad back stories. She remembers wanting to be like that, wanting to be a chosen one, wanting to be more than just a sad little lost girl.

Fast forward to five years later.

Emma wonders if those books might have been life's way of foreshadowing events to come.

Her parents, who are not only way too young to actually pass as her parents, turn out to be just any royal either. No, they had to be freaking Snow White and Prince Charming from another world where Disney reigns supreme.

A world with magic that somehow makes it possible for a "True Love" baby to be born with some sort of overpowered light magic. A baby who just happened to be her.

Well wasn't that something.

It's too much like those cheesy books really. An orphan made from "True Love" destined to be a savior who reunites with her family. Yay.

Except it isn't like that at all. Not really.

She's with her parents now. Parents who are total strangers. Strangers who are brave and valiant and so very good and in love. Not the sort of people who deserve to be burdened with an emotionally stunted seventeen year old with a troubled past. A lost girl.

Luckily with this baby on the way they might not even need to deal with her teenage drama.

The darkness always takes and never gives. She remembers the stories Regina told her about her reign as the evil queen after the whole debacle that was The Curse and The Breaking of The Curse. Regina who cast the curse but also took her in during her last few years as a foster kid..Regina her foster mother sort of step grandmother.

Emma however is still closed off as ever, still building up her emotional walls.

She knows she probably shouldn't be thinking this but she isn't a perfect fairy tale leading lady, won't ever be.

She is flawed, so very flawed and the darkness in her won't go away.

She tries to fight it, tries to overcome it with that sappy love she sees whenever her parents look at each other, when they look at her and she can't help but look away because she doesn't do sappy and maybe she doesn't actually deserve sappy.

The darkness is familiar. Familiar in ways that a lost girl away would understand. It lays her insecurities bare. It brings back every dark moment she's ever had.

She doesn't think she can fight it.

she is struck with another probably altogether inappropriate thought all things considered.

She knew she wasn't the most agreeable teenager, understatement of the year really, but an angry teenage Dark One?

Before the darkness completely consumes her and leaves a dagger in her place Emma Swan looks into the eyes of her poor, panicked heartbroken eyes of her parents foster step grandmother and wonders how long she'll be grounded for this upcoming teenage dark one drama storm.
