Chapter 29: ThunderStruck (Part 1)

Schools of fish swam away in a panicked frenzy as Kaitlyn and Demi glided through, their tails moving in graceful unison. The pair continued swimming until coming up to a reef, where they stopped. With a bright smile, Kaitlyn held up three fingers in front of Demi.

The two-shot off at full speed with Kaitlyn leading the way, but Demi was only inches behind and catching up fast. They continued to race through the water until the pair decided it was time to head back and torpedoed back to the shore.

"I won!" Kaitlyn grinned as they picked up their stuff. Demi rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, yeah," she grumbled. "Hey, just remember I was only inches behind," she pointed out, her voice held a little irritation. Kaitlyn tilted her head.

"Hey, everything ok?" she asked.

"Yeah," Demi shrugged, only to sigh when the Silver Ranger shot her a look that showed just how convinced she was. "Fine, it's about the prom," she grumbled, folding her arms. "I'm seriously thinking about ditching it," she admitted after a moment. Kaitlyn pulled her head back a little, confused.

"But why? You were ecstatic a few days ago," she asked, thinking back to how excited the Purple Ranger was when they had been talking about prom.

"Because I've had a chance to really think about it, and realized It's just a dance," Demi shrugged, as if it were no big deal. "Why get all hyped up for something that'll only last a few hours," Kaitlyn blinked rapidly, growing more confused.

"But didn't you ask that really cute guy from your art class?" Kaitlyn asked, and when Demi refused to look at her, the taller mermaid's eyes widened. "He said no, didn't he?" she realized. Demi tensed, her blank uncaring expression gone as she gazed at the ground.

"No…He asked another girl right before I could," she whispered softly. Kaitlyn stared at her in shock for a moment before wrapping her arms around her.

"I'm so sorry, he's a total moron!" she spoke softly, hugging the girl tightly. Demi fought back the urge to cry. "and any guy who willingly passes over my gorgeous best friend doesn't have any brain cells at all," she told her confidently, earning a small smile as the two pulled apart.

"Thanks, Kaitlyn. I really needed that," Demi nodded slowly.

"No problem," Kaitlyn shrugged. They began to leave the beach. "And hey, if it's any consolation, you can always come with Conner and me if you want," she suggested, but it was instantly waved off.

"That's really sweet of you to offer, but it's your guy's night, I don't wanna be the third wheel," Demi shook her head.

"Oh, come on, we wouldn't see it that way," Kaitlyn argued, but the look she received told her that the discussion was over. "Fine. But I still think you should go. Hey, do you know if Ethan or Kira have dates?" she asked curiously.

"No clue, I'm not even sure if Ethan's going either," Demi shrugged then couldn't help but grin. "Knowing him, he'll probably make up some elaborate excuse," she added. Kaitlyn laughed.

"I wouldn't be all that surprised," she agreed. A mischievous glint then sparkled in her eyes. "But do you think we should ask Kira again if Trent's asked her," Kaitlyn mused.

"Oh she'll probably beat us half to death like she promised after the last time we asked," Demi giggled. The two had been insisting to Kira, much to the girl's rage, about going with Trent since the dance was announced. Their morpher's beeped, and they both moaned. "So much for some downtime," she grumbled. Kaitlyn just shrugged, before they hurried off to see what the latest trouble was.

After being told that Zeltrax had kidnapped an innocent civilian, Kaitlyn and Demi met up with the others, and they faced the machine.

"Where's the woman, Zeltrax?" Dr. Oliver yelled at him.

"Safe and sound, Rangers. Come check if you like," he challenged. They all launched at him but were knocked aside easily. Kaitlyn threw a punch, but Zeltrax caught and twisted her arm, shoving her to the ground just in time to dodge and throw Demi as she tried to take out his legs. Everyone continued fighting, but Zeltrax was overwhelmingly strong. "your time is up, Rangers!" he declared to them as he tossed Conner back.

"Yeah right, like we haven't heard that a million times before," Demi snapped, helping Kaitlyn get the Red Ranger to his feet.

"Guys, you know what time it is," Dr. Oliver told them. They all nodded at him, and Conner stepped forward.

"Dino Thunder, Power Up, Ha!"

"White Ranger, Dino Power!" pulling out their weapons, the Rangers charged at Zeltrax again, and it was easier to fight him off this time. As Dr. Oliver was knocked backward, a cry echoed down to them.

"Help! Somebody help me!" they all looked up at the terrified voice.

"You guys deal with Zeltrax, I'll help her," Dr. Oliver told them. Having heard the Black Ranger, Zeltrax turned and fired a blast where Conner and Ethan were standing, but the two leapt through the air. They lunged for the robot, who managed to avoid them, before being blasted by Kira and Demi. He stumbled backward, before blocking Ethan and Trent's weapons. They managed to grab his arms and twisting them behind his back, restraining him.

"Kira, Demi! Go!" Trent called to the girls, but as they ran at him, he blasted them to the ground, before knocking the Blue and White Rangers to the ground and flipped Kaitlyn to the side as she swung her saber at him. Conner jumped into the air to attack, but Zeltrax blasted him in the stomach and he crashed to the ground.

"Are you up to the new and improved Zeltrax?" the rogue machine called and summoned more power. His form changed, laughing as the Rangers rose back to their feet.

"You've seen one Zeltrax, you've seen them all!" Conner growled, unimpressed. "Shield of Triumph!" he called on his shield, and Kira, Ethan, Kaitlyn, and Demi poured their power into it for him. "Triassic Ranger! Battlizer mode, engage!" he transformed into his Battlizer. "Battle blast!" he flew into the air and fired a blast at Zeltrax, causing a massive explosion. The other Ranger's cheered.

"Guys!" They all whirled around at Dr. Oliver's call. He was supporting a woman, who stumbled along.

"Who's that?" Conner questioned.

"Only one way to find out," Demi shrugged, and they ran over to the two, as Dr. Oliver helped her keep steady.

"It's Elsa!" Trent was the one to recognize the woman.

"What? No way!" the others stared at her. With her long dark hair, pale features, and the clothes she was wearing, she looked nothing like the evil villainess that had giving them so much trouble for so long.

"Elsa…" Elsa finally spoke, but her voice was so tired that they almost didn't hear it. "Yes, that's what the creature called me. Elsa…" Dr. Oliver caught her as she collapsed again.

"We'd better get back to the lab, and figure out what's going on," he told his students, who nodded, just as eager to get to the bottom of this.

Once they had returned back to the lab, the Rangers helped Hayley set up the machines that would help find out what the situation with Elsa was.

"Trent, do you know what happened?" Dr. Oliver turned to the artist as Hayley scanned the woman. Trent had secretly snuck into Mesogog's fortress to find out what the monster had done to his father.

"Mesogog's powering up a laser that will transform humans into mutant dinosaurs," Trent explained.

"Gross, no thanks. I already have to deal with growing scales with just a drop of water," Kaitlyn crinkled her nose in disgust. Demi nodded, looking just as disgusted by the idea. Conner chuckled, and kissed the blonde mermaid's forehead.

"Mesogog drained Elsa of her energy to use the beam," Trent continued.

"That can't be enough to run that kind of equipment," Hayley frowned.

"He's gonna use the Dino Gems to get the rest of the power," Trent explained, and the others shared a look, confused by his choice of phrase.

"What do you mean, he's gonna use the Dino Gems," Conner asked, slowly.

"Yeah, how's he gonna get them?" Ethan frowned.

"I'm going to give them to him," Trent told them simply. The others immediately went tense.

"I'm not giving anyone my Gem," Conner growled at him.

"Look, just hear me out. You want to get onto that island. Mesogog wants the Gems," Trent pointed out, not intimidated by the jock, who continued to glare at him. Kaitlyn slipped her hand into his, squeezing it lightly. "If I hand them to him, I can open a portal for you," he told Conner and turned away. "Once you get inside, you can destroy the beam, and Mesogog in the process," he explained. "And I can rescue my dad," he turned to Dr. Oliver, who shook his head.

"No way, it's too risky," he frowned.

"Do we really have another choice?" Hayley sighed.

"She's right," Kira agreed. "I mean, he's gonna get that thing going eventually," she pointed out. "This could be our only shot," Dr. Oliver sighed, knowing that the two were right.

"There's just one other issue…" They looked back at Trent. When his gaze fell on to Kaitlyn, the Silver Ranger sighed.

"It's me, isn't it?" Kaitlyn grumbled, and he nodded grimly.

"Mesogog believes that using your energy is what he needs to revert the earth back to the prehistoric age," Kaitlyn swallowed hard, and before she could stop him, Conner was in front of the White Ranger, his expression dark.

"There's no way in hell I'm letting that freak anywhere near her!" he snarled at him.

"That's enough," Dr. Oliver stepped in between the two boys, who continued to glare at each other. "Trent, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to go with Conner on this," he told him. "The Gem's are one thing, but you can't take Kaitlyn," Trent sighed.

"But wait, why just her?" Demi spoke up, resting a hand on her hip. "I mean, I'm a mermaid too," she reminded him, looking a little offended.

"Apparently the two of you, plus the Gems would be too much power for the machine to handle," Trent told her, thinking back to the conversation before Elsa had been drained. The Purple Ranger didn't know wither to be relieved or proud. "Look, I get how risky and dangerous this whole plan is, and I don't expect any of you to agree with it but, I have to save my father, he's giving me everything when I had no-one," he looked at everyone sadly.

"Alright, I'll go," They all whirled to Kaitlyn.

"What? You can't be serious?" Conner demanded furiously.

"Conner, I don't like this any more than you do, but I'm not seeing any other options right now," Kaitlyn crossed her arms. "I mean this is Mesogog we're talking about, He's not just gonna sit around and wait. But with this plan, it gives us the opportunity to take him down once and for all," she tried. She gave her boyfriend a determined look and he sighed.

"Fine…" Conner relented after a moment. He then turned to look at Trent as the others watched warily. "But if anything happens to her, and Mesogog will be the least of your problems," he warned in a steel growl.

"Noted," Trent nodded slowly, very aware how serious the Red Ranger was.

"This better work," Conner's tone was still hard as he placed his red Gem into the case, where the other six Gems sat.

"I'll call when the portal's open," Trent ignored him as he walked past. "You ready to go?" he turned to Kaitlyn, who swallowed again.

"Let's do this," she sighed, but as she started to follow the White Ranger to leave, Conner caught her wrist. "Conner, don't-" Kaitlyn began but was cut off when he pulled her into him, stunning her.

"Promise to come back to me safe," Conner hugged her tightly. Kaitlyn's fingers curled around his shirt as she buried her face into his chest.

"I promise," she muffled out softly. She reached up and pressed a quick kiss against his cheek. With tears in her eyes, she pulled away and turned to leave.

"You sure you still wanna do this?" Trent asked carefully as Kaitlyn caught up to him, and noticed the mermaid was wiping her face.

"Yeah let's just hurry and go save your dad," Kaitlyn sighed. Trent nodded, and the two headed to his house where the Invisiportal that would take them to Mesogog was.

No sooner had Kaitlyn and Trent left, the six who had stayed behind in the lab suddenly heard a soft moan and turned around to see Elsa slowly starting to wake up.

"Are you alright?" Dr. Oliver was instantly in front of her. The woman's face twisted in confusion for a moment before her eyes widened.

"I remember everything," Elsa declared softly, and they all froze.

"Mesogog? Mercer?" Dr. Oliver asked. "Fighting against the Power Rangers?" he glanced at the others as they watched warily, unsure this all wasn't some sort of trap.

"How about terrorizing innocent high school students?" Demi muttered quietly, and yelped when Kira smacked her arm.

"I remember fighting against you," Elsa admitted softly, looking at Dr. Oliver as he frowned at Kira and Demi. "Mesogog had my mind completely in his power," she told them, her eyes looked haunted. The others fell silent until the computer beeped. They looked around as the images of a vehicle with a strange weapon inside appeared on the screen.

"The new vehicle's ready to go," Hayley announced, and the Rangers all shared a determined look. It was time to charge Mesogog's fortress.

"Are you gonna be alright?" Dr. Oliver asked, turning back to Elsa, looking worried. Since Hayley was coming along to operate the machine, the woman would be left all alone in the lab.

"Yeah," Elsa insisted. "Come back safe," she smiled at him.

"We always do," Dr. Oliver smiled back. "Let's get going," he told his students and Hayley, who nodded, and they all began to leave.

"Y'know, now I'm really starting to think she actually has a thing for you, Dr. O," Demi smirked at the Black Ranger, who groaned.

"Demi, I swear I will give you detention for the rest of the year," he warned, scowling. Demi just laughed as they headed out of the lab.

Kaitlyn's stomach tightened up as she and Trent stood in his father's office, where the Invisiportal was hidden.

"Y'know, once we pass the portal, there's no turning back right?" Trent spoke up, and Kaitlyn nodded slowly. "look, I just wanna say how sorry I am for getting you mixed up into all this," he sighed, gazing at the ground guiltily. Kaitlyn fell silent for a moment, before smiling thoughtfully.

"There's nothing to apologize for, Trent," the White Ranger looked up quickly, frowning a little. "You're doing all this to get someone back who you care about a lot, and If I were in your shoes, I know I would do the same without a second thought," she told him confidently, and Trent knew this was true. When it came to the people she was closest to, there was nothing the mermaid wouldn't do to keep them safe. "And besides, this whole mess is really Mesogog's fault, so there's no point in feeling guilty," Kaitlyn added with a shrug as if it were obvious.

"Thanks, Kaitlyn," Trent smiled at her, the guilt lessened a bit. "Guys, we're heading through. Be ready when I call you, the portal will only be open a short time," he instructed the others through his morpher.

"Got it," Dr. Oliver responded, and after ending the comlink, Trent reached out and opened the portal. With a determined nod, he and Kaitlyn moved through it together.

Pulling up to the location where the new assault vehicle was, the Rangers quickly climbed out of Dr. Oliver's jeep and found Hayley waiting for them.

"Ok, we're ready to roll," Hayley grinned as the five joined her. She held out a strange looking device and pressed a button. There was a loud roar as a massive truck appeared and was driving towards the group.

"Woah! That thing's huge!" Demi gaped as the red and yellow vehicle slowed to a stop in front of them.

"Good job Hayley. You've done it again," Dr. Oliver grinned at the redhead, impressed. The four teenagers ran over to get a closer look at it.

"That is sweet!" Ethan beamed.

"Can I drive?" Conner asked, smiling eagerly. The other three shared a grin. It had been the jock's first genuine smile since Kaitlyn had left with Trent.

"Ah…no," Conner deflated a little at the response. "It's better if I drive. We have to make sure we hit the portal at the exact right speed and we only get one chance at it," Hayley explained, shooting the young man an apologetic smile.

"Alright, now it's up to Trent and Kaitlyn," Dr. Oliver spoke up. Conner's expression darkened instantly at the reminder where his girlfriend was. "let's load up," he instructed, and everyone nodded. As they began to climb into the truck, Demi stopped and turned around.

"Hey, you ok?" she asked Conner as she noticed his hard expression.

"Yeah…" Conner sighed. "Trent just better keep his promise and keep her safe," he grumbled.

"Hey, Kaitlyn can take care of herself, y'know. if anything goes wrong, I'm sure she'll use one of her many powers to get out of there," Demi assured. Conner sighed. Kaitlyn was resourceful, that was one of the many things that he adored about her.

"I still don't like it," he muttered, looking away.

"None of us do," Demi frowned, crossing her arms. "But that's why we have to focus here and work on making sure that Mesogog never fires that laser, so they get back here safely," she reminded him, and the Red Ranger fell silent as if to let her words sink in.

"You're right," he sighed.

"Of course, I'm right," Demi snorted, and Conner rolled his eyes. "So, stop with the moping, and let's put an end to this once and for all," she told him seriously, and he managed to nod, but still looked pretty worried.

"Hey, you guys coming or not?" Kira called out to the pair impatiently.

"Think she's worried about Trent?" Demi giggled, and Conner grinned a little before they climbed into the truck to join the others, ready for the White Ranger's signal.

Trent entered the main lab and found Mesogog sitting in his throne, waiting for him. Holding onto the case with the Dino Gems inside in one hand, as he pretended to drag Kaitlyn roughly along by the arm with the other. The two had both agreed that this was the only way for the plan to work.

"It's about time," Mesogog roared at the White Ranger. "give me the Gems, and the girl!" he snarled as he rose up.

"Not so fast!" Trent jerked Kaitlyn back and raised the case as the monster went to grab them. "Where's my father?" he demanded.

"Trent…you're making a huge mistake!" Kaitlyn pleaded, struggling hard enough to make it look real. However, suddenly, Mesogog hit him with a mind blast, and the teen cried out, crashing to his knees as Mesogog took the case into his hands.

"You should know by now, that I can't be trusted!" Mesogog growled as he grabbed Kaitlyn.

"Well, you're forgetting someone, Dino-breath!" Kaitlyn's body turned to water, and she jumped back before delivering a kick at Mesogog's feet. Crying out, the monster stumbled a little, cutting off the torture on Trent. She went to help the stunned White Ranger, but Mesogog grabbed her arm and threw her into a nearby wall, making the mermaid choke out a cry.

"Once I have harnessed the power of the Gems, your energy will be the perfect way to return the world to its natural order!" Mesogog declared triumphantly and began placing the Gems onto a machine.

"Hayley, are we at speed yet?" Dr. Oliver asked the redhead as she drove through the quarry.

"Almost," Hayley replied. "let's just hope Trent and Kaitlyn are ready," she muttered.

Choking out a grunt, Kaitlyn looked over as Trent slowly edged towards the portal button.

"Almost there…" Hayley announced when the truck began moving faster.

"Uh I don't want to alarm anybody just yet but, shouldn't there be a portal by now," Demi spoke up as the cliff came into view. It was the spot where the Invisiportal that would take them to the island was supposed to be, but there was no sign of it.

"You're right. Something must've happened," Hayley surmised. When she glanced down at the controls, the redhead sucked in a breath. "We're at speed!" she exclaimed, and the five Ranger's eyes went wide.

"But there's no portal!" Ethan cried out in horror, looking from Hayley to the road.

"Everybody, hang on!" Everyone held their breaths, bracing themselves as the cliff grew more and closer with each passing second. However, right as it looked like they were going to crash, the portal suddenly appeared and they instantly went through it. The six reappeared on an empty road surrounded by trees, and the truck jerked to a stop. "Everybody ok?" Dr. Oliver asked as everyone let out a breath.

"I will be right after I cram my heart back down my throat," Demi grumbled.

"But thank god we made it," Kira added, and the others only nodded in agreement. That had been a little too close for all of them.

"You!" to say Mesogog was furious was an understatement. He whirled around to snarl at the screen as the alarms blared, announcing that there were intruders. "You did this!" he spat at Trent, realizing what the White Ranger had just done.

"You should know by now, you can't trust me!" Trent told him from the ground, throwing his earlier words back at him. "it's over, Mesogog! You're finished!" he smirked.

"Yeah, you're a whole lot crazier than you look if you honestly thought we were gonna let you turn the entire world into mutant dinosaurs like you," Kaitlyn added in, and grimaced when she tried to push herself up to sit.

"It won't matter. Thanks to your precious Dino Gems, the world will soon worship at my feet! And this planet will be as it once was," Mesogog declared, and yanked Kaitlyn to her feet. "In the claws of the mighty reptiles," he laughed maliciously. "all that's left is for you to set the world back to its glorious state!" he dragged her roughly over to the machine. Kaitlyn tried to fight back, but it seemed Mesogog was a step ahead of her as he blasted her again and she cried out.

"Your attempt at resistance is worthless!" he sneered at her, and put her hand onto the machine. Kaitlyn screamed as silver light bathed her and was then sucked into the machine, turning the laser on.

"No!" Trent tried to push himself to help her, but it was proving to be difficult. Mesogog just laughed as he watched.

"Guys, something feels wrong," Conner declared suddenly. There was a sinking feeling in his gut that he couldn't shake. No sooner had he voiced his opinion, the alarm beeped and the screen showed that the laser was powering up.

"The beam is powering up!" Hayley cried in horror. "We have to hurry!" she told the others, who looked just as horrified. The alarm beeped again and this time a group of Tyarrondrones appeared on the screen.

"So much for the element of surprise," Demi grumbled.

"Hayley, you've gotta take out that beam," Dr. Oliver instructed, and the redhead nodded. The five Rangers all rushed out of the truck and faced the Tyannodrones, who had already begun to charge for them. Flipping to the other side of the truck, Demi delivered a sweeping kick that sent several sprawling to the ground.

"It's kinda pathetic how easy these guys are even without the suits," she smirked, before surrounding herself in her purple aura. "Spirit of the Snow Leopard!" Demi released her animal spirit, who took care of the rest of the Tyanndrones. While the fighting continued, Hayley had managed to drive the truck through and started for the fortress. It wasn't long before there was a loud explosion and the ground shook a little.

"Looks like Hayley did it," Ethan beamed as he and the others regrouped. Thanks to the explosion, the Tyrannodrones had been distracted and a lot easier to take down.

"Alright, let's hurry and get back to the truck," Dr. Oliver said. "I don't know how long the Invisiportal network will stay opened," he told them, and they nodded. If they didn't move now, they'd be stuck on the island forever.

"Hey, I'm sure she and Trent are alright," Demi looked at Conner as they ran to the truck. He still looked pretty worried.

"I really hope you're right," Conner muttered, the sinking feeling refusing to leave.

"Kaitlyn…Kaitlyn…" the mermaid moaned at the voice echoing in her hazed filled head.

"Go away," she grumbled.

"Kaitlyn, wake up!" the girl's eyes shot open to look up at Trent, who had his hands clutching her shoulders. "We've gotta go," he told her urgently, helping her rise to her feet. The whole lab was shaking and the equipment was sparking.

"What happened?" Kaitlyn asked. Her head was still pretty fuzzy, all she remembered was Mesogog putting her hand on the machine before blacking out.

"The others did it," Trent couldn't help but grin, before grabbing the Dino Gems from the machine.

"Trent, Kaitlyn, get out of there before the portal network shuts down!" Hayley's voice spoke through their morphers.

"I"ve gotta find my father, I'll be right there! I know another way out!" Trent told her.

"Trent, there's no time! Go, now!" Hayley begged, but the White Ranger ignored her.

"Trent, I'm coming with you," Kaitlyn declared, and held out a hand when he opened his mouth to protest. "Don't even try to tell me to go, cuz we both know that I'm not leaving here without you and your dad," Trent cursed under his breath.

"Conner's gonna murder me for this," he grumbled, and Kaitlyn didn't bother hiding her smile. With a frustrated sigh, the two hurried down the corridors with Trent leading the way as the main lab exploded with Mesogog still inside.

Meanwhile, the other five Rangers had quickly returned to the truck.

"Good job, Hayley," Dr. Oliver praised the redhead when they took their seats. "Let's go before we're stuck here," he told her. His four students looked at him sharply.

"Wait, what about Trent and Kaitlyn?" Kira demanded, looking from Dr. Oliver to Hayley. "We can't just leave them here!" she pleaded. Hayley shook her head.

"Trent won't leave without his father," she told them, her panic peeked through just enough to let them know how worried she was.

"And knowing Kaitlyn, she won't leave without either of them," Demi sighed, a hand on her face. She then stole a worried glance at Conner, whose jaw was clenched tightly, his expression dark.

"What do we do, Dr. O?" Ethan asked, worried for their friends. The science teacher sighed.

"There's no-one who knows this place better than Trent," Dr. Oliver said. "We'll just have to trust him to get them out," he told them, the distraught in his voice showed that he didn't like it the least bit.

'No," they all looked around at Conner as he unbuckled his seat. "I'm not just going to sit around and let them get trapped here," he went to rise, only for Ethan and Demi to grab and hold him back. "Let me go now!" he snarled, struggling.

"Conner, if you go out there, you'll just end up getting trapped," Dr. Oliver warned him sternly.

"I know you're worried, but think about Kaitlyn," Demi reminded, keeping a firm grip on his arm. "Do you honestly believe she'd be okay if she knew that you were trapped here because of her?" she accused, and Conner stopped struggling to look at her. It was silent for a moment, before he sighed.

"Fine, you're right," he relented, sinking further into his seat as the others watched him with concern. There was a look of defeat in his eyes.

"Get us out of here Hayley," Dr. Oliver told the redhead. She nodded and quickly started the truck, speeding through the portal, returning to the quarry. After it had stopped, they all rushed out and stood outside, anxiously waiting for Trent, Kaitlyn, and Dr. Mercer to appear. However, a moment had passed and nothing happened.

"No…they can't be gone," Kira choked out, tears welled in her eyes. Demi hugged the Yellow Ranger tightly while fighting back her own tears.

"You should've let me go after them!" Conner suddenly yelled grief and fury darkened his expression.

"I'm sorry, Conner, but there just wouldn't have been enough time," Dr. Oliver shook his head softly. There was a heavy level of guilt in his voice. The Red Ranger clenched his fist tightly, and the others watched warily, worried he was going to hit the science teacher, but Conner just kicked one of the tires and sank to the ground.

"Hayley, there has to be a way to get them back," Kira begged the redhead.

"With the Invisportal network gone, I'm not sure there is, Kira," Hayley spoke softly. She had tracked down all of the portals that led to the island, but as much of a miracle worker she proved to be, this was something even she couldn't do.

"Now what do we do you guys?" Demi whispered, tears welling up. She was slowly starting to believe that they were never going to see their friends again.

'"Well, it's not like they're gonna fall out of the sky and land right in front of us," Ethan declared loudly, glancing up at the sky hopefully. Kira and Demi turned to scowl at him.

"Did you get yourself knocked in the head or something?" Kira growled.

"What? The last time I did that, it worked," Ethan countered, hands raised. Something suddenly caught the Blue Ranger's eye as he looked ahead and smiled. "See?" he laughed, and the others looked around to see Kaitlyn, Trent, and Dr. Mercer crouched on the ground a few feet from them. With relieved smiles, they ran over.

"You guys are alright!" Kira beamed as they helped the three to their feet.

"Although I think we all can agree on that we could've gone without the close call," Demi grinned. They looked a little disoriented with cuts and bruises. With a surprised squeak, Kaitlyn was pulled into someone's arms.

"You really need to quit scaring me like this," Conner whispered softly, hugging her tightly. Kaitlyn buried her face into his chest and hugged him back, enjoying his warmth.

"Sorry," she apologized weakly.

"So, Trent, what happened to Mesogog?" Dr. Oliver asked anxiously.

"I don't think he made it," Trent told them, and then held out the case. "but just in case," he opened it to show the seven Dino Gems sitting inside, and Dr. Oliver smiled with relief.

"Tommy…I don't know where to start…" Dr. Mercer looked to the Black Ranger, who shook his head.

"We'll take later," Dr. Oliver promised. "but right now, we'd better get back to the lab. We've still got Zeltrax to deal with," he pointed out, and the other Rangers groaned but nodded, knowing their job wasn't quite over.
