Regrettale Redux Chapter 1: New Beginnings

HAPPY FIFTH UNDERTALE ANNIVERSARY! Guess who's back? It's me, and I'm finally happy to be here. If you're wondering why I'm back, well, let's just say I beat True Pacifist again, and saving Asriel just ain't in the cards in the game. I quit the old fic for a number of reasons. 1. I lost interest. I was only writing the fanfiction for the fans, not for myself. 2. I grew up. Regrettale was crap. I started writing it in 8th grade. 3. High School got busy, and I completely forgot that it actually existed. I've been feeling nostalgic recently, so I figured I'd give this another go. I'm going into college, and the biggest mark I've made on the internet was a fanfic I wrote in 8th grade. I hope that you've all been well, even if you don't read this. I'm doing this for myself. I want a happy ending. Last chapter: 3 years ago isn't a happy ending, is it? If you're here, reading this, thanks for sticking with me. Leave a review or PM me, my PMs are always open, and if they're not, I probably didn't mean to turn them off. Well, enough about me. You can PM me if you want to hear me talk. It's time to pull a true reset on Regrettale (Canonically this is a total reboot of Regrettale, not a reset).

"Frisk, don't you have anything better to do?"

These words had played through Frisk's head numerous times, but she couldn't seem to find an answer that was good enough. This reset would be different. This ending would be different.

"You're right, Asriel." Frisk replied, turning around.

Asriel nodded and shut his eyes, holding back tears. He sniffled. He knew there was no way he could be saved.

"That's why you're coming with me." Frisk added, holding out her hand

"H-huh?" Asriel shook his head. "Frisk, I can't go back there. I-"

"Just trust me," Frisk replied. "I've finally figured it out." Frisk grabbed Asriel by the arm and began to walk out of the room.

"W-wait! Frisk!" Asriel tried pulled away as Frisk was pulling out her phone. Frisk stopped and turned around. "Didn't you hear me? It'll only break their hearts all over again! I can't-"

"Asriel," Frisk interjected, "I've been through countless resets. Over a hundred just to find a way to save you."

A soul materialized, though only visible to Frisk, this soul turned into a floating apparition.

"Don't you think that's putting it lightly, Frisk?" Chara asked, chuckling. "It's almost like you like-"

"Don't you think I would already have this figured out by now?" Frisk interrupted. "I'll just give you a piece of my soul."

"How can you say that so nonchalantly?!" Asriel yelled in response. "That could kill you!"

Frisk looked at Asriel with a face that said 'really, bro?'

"Oh," Asriel responded. "I guess death really has no meaning then, huh?"

"Well, not at the moment." Frisk responded.

"Wait, what do you mean by- hey!" Asriel was cut off by Frisk pulling him forward.

"Come on, we have to get to the True Lab before you turn back into a flower." Frisk

pulled Asriel along, not letting go. Determination was visible in their seemingly closed eyes. She pulled out her cell phone, calling Alphys.

"H-hello? Frisk?" Alphys answered.

"Alphys, I need you to meet me in the True Lab in ten minutes." Frisk said calmly.

"The T-true Lab? But why?" Alphys asked.

"No time, I just need the DT extractor machine up and running." Frisk replied, running now, they couldn't waste any time. Asriel was right behind them.

"Frisk…" Asriel started.

"This oughta be good," Chara smirked. It was finally something new, something other than just testing Frisk's theories. It was time to put them in practice.

"W-what!? If I used that on you, there's no telling what could happen!" Alphys yelled.

"It'll work, you just have to-" Frisk was cut off

"No way! You could die, or- or worse…" Alphys trailed off.

"dont worry kiddo, we'll be there," a familiar skeletal voice butted in. "im sure youre determined to make this work."

"Ha ha ha ha~!" A female voice replied to the pun

"OH MY GOD, SANS, YOU-" The other skeletal voice was cut off by the end of the phone call.

"Frisk, you don't have to do this…" Asriel said softly.

Frisk just shook her head. No, it was time to do this. "No," replied "it's time to bring a happy ending to this regrettable tale."

Okay, first off, yeah, this is a short chapter, I'm probably gonna keep it like this so I don't get burnt out. Second off, it's been a while. I hope you all have been well. I doubt many of you are still around, but hey, at least one of you's gotta be, right? HELLO? ANYBODY OUT THERE? Anyway, don't expect frequent or consistent updates, I still have college and other stuff to work on. Shoot me a PM with any questions you have, and make sure to leave some feedback in a review! This story will be updated in a separate story on my account, so make sure to check it out.

P.S. I'm working on a little something. I've become the music writer/ producer for an indie game titled 4th Dawn that should be coming out later this year.
